Electronic cigarettes/vapes in Hua Hin and Thailand

Post by Rshome123 »

Visiting hua hin next year. What is the situation regarding ecigs?

I use a tank based system, with liquid refills.

Are ecigs and liquids available to buy in hua hin and/or Bangkok, chiang mai etc.

Are they recognised ? Am I likely to get in trouble vaping in a bar, restaurant or public transport?

Thanks in advance.

"Likely ban on e-cigarettes, Baraku supported

BANGKOK: -- Thailand's anti-smoking movement supported the Commerce Ministry's plan to ban the imports of electronic cigarettes and Baraku.

Prakit Wathisathokkit, secretary-general of the Action on Smoking and Health Foundation Thailand, said in a statement that both products cause greater health and economic problems.

He noted that there are mixed researches on the benefits of e-cigarettes. Yet, the fact that some giant cigarette makers are producing the e-cigarettes showed their long-term dream to create a new addictive product.

A recent British study found that smokers were about 60 per cent more likely to stop smoking if they used e-cigarettes. Yet, other studies have found those who switched to e-cigarettes were less likely or no more likely to quit than if they used a patch or gum.

Can anyone update me on the usage of electronic cigarettes in Thailand, are the authority's excepting their now very popular and are common place now in society or are they frowned upon and a potential to pull a farang up in or outside of a bar.
Has their been anymore news on Thailand banning them like some other countries like Singapore.

I purchased this top of the range vapor device about six weeks ago (not the cheap plastic electronic fag type) but an all singing and dancing one with five air setting and variable power settings.
I am very happy to say i stopped smoking conventional tailor made cigarettes after one packet and it really does seem to be working for me. When i say "very happy" it's because i promised my wife when our daughter Amelie was born i would quit smoking and i didn't she's just turned four years old now.
I work a lot of hours in a very stressful job and also run a business and have never really focused on giving up. I really have enjoyed a fag and a pint all my working life and even now can't believe i have come this far without a conscious decision to stop smoking for me it's a lesser evil. It all started when six of my work colleagues bought these devises and all have quit, one lad said to me over a pint "have a blast on this mate, it's the way forward" and now i much prefer it and can't ever see myself reaching for a packet of cigarettes again.
The key thing to do now is to reduce the nicotine strength down on future bottles of the vapor liquids that i buy.
As for health benefits i don't wake up in the mornings so bunged up, my skin is not so dry i can also smell and taste more and i have even noticed my short term memory is sharper.

My new gismo also paid for its self in less than a month so that's a good thing.

So availability of quality vapor products and prices in Hua Hin and the current locations where the can be purchased in Hua Hin would be of great help or do i need to bring a supply with me.

Has anyone had any issues bringing them into Thailand through airport security as the one that i have could resemble a gun through an ex-ray machine, thoughts experiences and opinions please.

Banned by law. Enforced? Maybe.

"As a result and also due to the known adverse health impacts of tobacco smoking, the cabinet last month approved a draft announcement by the Ministry of Commerce banning the import of electronic cigarettes...

"BANGKOK (AP) — Thailand's Cabinet on Tuesday approved a ban on the import of hookah-style water pipes and electronic cigarettes, copying a similar move by neighboring Cambodia earlier this year.

Deputy government spokesman Maj. Gen. Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the ban proposed by the Commerce Ministry was imposed for health reasons. The Public Health Ministry originally suggested the move, saying the items were luring young people into smoking.

The ban also applies to substances that could be used to flavor the water used in the water pipes, also called baraku in Thailand. The use of baraku is still legal in areas where smoking is allowed. Those violating the ban face a maximum jail term of 10 years or a fine of five times the product's value, or both.

Cambodia in February banned the import, sale and promotion of e-cigarettes and shisha tobacco, a favorite of hookah-using smokers."

I have been bringing my e cigarettes and juice into Thailand from U.K. with no problems.20 months ago I was running low on juice and bought two small bottles from Market Village, within a day the oils were turning black,my first experience of copies/home made versions.
I have now found a reputable dealer in B/kok who I order from regularly for friends and self. The cost is half the U.K. prices and I can also get the 30 ml bottles. The e cigarette is also much better quality and the oils do not dis-colour in the atomizer. My current atomizer is 19 months old.As I am new to the forum and this is my first blog I am happy to order to help anyone stay off the ciggies.tel.0871705326
Here in Hua Hin I have never had a problem "vaping" anywhere. In the two and a half years since I stopped smoking my health is much better especially after 40 + years as a smoker.

"The Poison in Your E-Cigarettes"

Image

"If you think e-cigs are a safer alternative to regular cigarettes, think again.

An independent study from the Center for Environmental Health (CEH) this week has offered new evidence that e-cigarettes contain cancer-causing agents. If the research holds up, the devices’ days as a “healthy alternative to smoking” may be numbered."
...

"The results were staggering. Ninety percent of the companies tested were shown to have at least one product with extreme levels of cancer causing gases. ..."

I originally bought my E-cig at a shop in the basement of Market Village, but it appears to be gone / closed now. Where in Hua Hin can I now buy e-cigs ?

The Thai government banned the import of water pipes and electronic cigarettes in 2014. So, unless they're manufactured here you probably won't find them any longer. I haven't read if their manufacture within Thailand is also banned, but a good guess is that they are. Pete

This story was published yesterday. So, it looks like a quick trip south perhaps for those who use these devices. Pete

Malaysian government rejects ban on e-cigarettes

....."Sabri said there are an estimated 1 million vape users in Malaysia and a ban would have affected retailers and producers of the devices and flavours."......

EDIT: However, now the term "import" has to be defined as it applies to Thai law. Is it commercial import that is against the law, or all import including carrying a personal supply in your luggage?

This story has been dominating Thai news for days. The Taiwanese dollybird that got extorted for 27k has ruffled feathers, wouldn't be the same reaction if it was one of us though - the "police" extort money from people on a daily basis!

No vaping for smokers, no bail for 'extortion' police
Six policemen accused of extorting a group of tourists caught with vaping devices have been denied bail while the Bangkok police chief has ordered a crackdown on illegal e-cigarettes that are widely available in the capital.

The Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases refused bail on Thursday because extortion by officials carried heavy penalties and the court wanted to prevent the accused from interfering with evidence and witnesses, said Pol Maj Gen Atthaporn Wongsiripreeda, commander of Metropolitan Police Division 1.

The six officers from the Huai Khwang stationn face charges of taking bribes and could face life imprisonment, a fine of up to 400,000 baht or even the death penalty under Section 149 of the Criminal Code.

Investigators on Thursday sought court approval for the initial 12-day detention of the six officers as they gather more evidence in the case that began with a damning Instagram post by a Taiwanese actress.
