My wife went to Cool Smiles 2 this am got in 20 mins before appointment time saw a female dentist who gave excellent service, did the filling no X-ray or injection she is a hard northen lass from leeds. Wife asked if she needed a clean which was discussed. My point is there are always positives to others negatives life is a balance. The girls looked great in their Hua Hin FC cotton polo shirts. My only grip is we canot but these shirts come on play fair

I went to the one across from Market Village (Cool Smile?) for a cleaning right before leaving the country because I would have no dental insurance in the U.S. I chose that one because it is run by Dr. Supansa who I'd been to before in another office on Sra Song road where I was very happy with her services and pricing. Dr. Supansa was not available so I got the cleaning from a younger lady working there. She suggested I needed porcelain fillings to cover some exposed root on several teeth so I agreed to the procedure. She made a total mess of it. The fillings are not smooth but humps at the top of my teeth near the gum line and they are a color much darker than my teeth. I actually asked her to make them a bit lighter than my teeth as I was due for a whitening and the filling color will not change with whitening chemicals.

I was traveling in 48 hours and still had a million (well, at least a hundred) things to do so it was too late to do anything about it there. I'm left to deal with it here at some point in the future.

While I can highly recommend Dr Supansa from that clinic, I'd be carefull about seeing any of the younger ladies who work there.

Update: One of those fillings fell off last night, less than three months after it was applied...

Thanks for the update. I think I'll give Hua Hin Dental Clinic a try. Seems to have a lot of good reviews.

When in HH I have been going to "Perfect Smile" for years for clean/inspection diagonally opp Market village (113 Phetchakasem Rd).
NEVER had any problem whatsoever.
Great service, scrupulously clean and good price.

Expensive and heavy handed.

I have just had some basic work done on my teeth ( scale and polish and 3 small fillings on the outside of the teeth by the gumline that did not need either local anaesthetic or drilling)

I went to a dental practice called "Rawee Dental Clinic" on Soi 70, just past KK Kiatnakin Bank.

I have used this clinic before and been treated well by a lady dentist there.

This time I was seen by a male dentist, the lady has apparently moved on, and found him to be polite but less than friendly, very heavy handed and the scale and polish took less than 5 minutes, (20 minutes is the minimum for this treatment)

The pricing list states scale and polish 800-1500, and white fillings 800-1500.

As a dentist myself I know what is involved in these basic procedures and whether the dentist is doing them properly.

I was charged 1500 for the scaling which took less than 5 minutes, and full price for each of the 3 fillings.

I consider this to be excessive and could not recommend this dental practice.

For basic dental work, the smaller clinics are normally fine and the prices reasonable and I have never had a bad experience before in Thailand with scaling and polishing and the small gum line fillings which can pop out after three or four years and need to be replaced.

I just went to 2 dentists last week that are mentioned in this posting so I will add my 2 cents worth.

Before I choose a dentist I read many postings here to get a feel for which ones would provide the type of service I was looking for.

A week ago I made an appointment for a cleaning/polishing at Cool Smile (100/2-3 Nab Kha Had Road). It was my first time there. The place certainly is nicely laid out, good modern equipment, nice staff, etc. The cleaning took 20 min and cost 800 baht. Fair enough. During the cleaning the lady (Thai-Chinese?) dentist mentioned I had a broken back tooth (that I was unaware of) and 3 small cavities that needed to be fixed. So I tried to make another appointment at Cool Smile to get this work done. However since I was flying back to Canada 4 days later they could not fit me in.

So, I looked for a dentist near where I was living (Soi 6) and found Dazzling Smile Dental Clinic (42/117 Petchkasem Rd) as I wanted to get my teeth fixed before I flew out. Fortunately I was able to make an appointment the next day at Dazzling and went to get the work done.

I must say, the lady dentist at Dazzling (Dr Onthet) was certainly more pleasant to deal with and had a much softer way of dealing with patients than the more "rough around the edges" dentist from Cool Smile. The office is much smaller than Cool Smile but still very professional. She confirmed my broken tooth needed to be fixed (and silver filling removed) but 2 of the 3 "cavities" that the Cool Smile dentist found (tiny holes really) she said were not big enough to fix. To drill them out would create a much larger hole than the cavity itself so she suggested I hold off on 2 of these "cavities" and get them checked out in a few months time.

So, 50 min later, everything was done, she did an excellent job of rebuilding the tooth and replacing the filling with a composite based one and then she used some composite to fill in the small hole on the side of this tooth (no drilling required). You wouldnt know there was even a hole there before.

In future I will make Dazzling Smile my choice of dentist when I return to Hua Hin later this year as I prefer her more gentle approach and also the fact that she didnt try to find more cavities than were actually there.

Best wishes

I don't know if I've mentioned it, but I am the world's biggest baby when I sit in the dentist's chair. So much so, they check my blood pressure before starting (I know I've mentioned that bit before).

My teeth are like a Jenga tower, just before it falls. Gaps and stumps everywhere  . A couple of weeks ago a cap that had been placed over a stump in England came away (at the time, I'd asked my UK dentist if she could put a crown there as a minimum, or even better, some bridge work - she said impossible).

Knowing that nothing permanent could be done, I went to the dentist and asked her reinstate the cap, which had served me so well for about 6 years. She said it wasn't possible, but she could do something, but couldn't explain what. I just said OK.

The first session in the chair took 90 minutes, and it was pain like I'd never known before. I was in such a state, she fetched my wife to hold my hand to try to calm me down. I was hurting, we had to go back to the beginning several times. She even offered to stop, but if she continued, it would be the point of no return - the stump would have to come out. I guess there was some infection in the way because there have been several sessions of similar duration, and I haven't felt a thing since. Anyway, the first session she was putting like 2 corkscrews deep into the stump of the tooth. I could see what she was doing because there were several x-rays on the way.

The dentist was quite worried at the level of pain, and was trying to be as gentle as she could - smiling assassin was going through my mind. When the session was over, she gave me a big bag of extra strong pain killers, telling me to take them, whether I was in pain or not - I took 2, but whatever she did must have worked because there was absolutely no after pain.

The following week it was the same again, but no pain - another 2 corkscrews, monitored by x-rays. I still didn't have a clue what she was doing, but a more caring gentle dentist, I could not have found anywhere.

The next week, again taking care to keep me calm/not hurt me, she re-constructed a new tooth where the stump had been. I was very impressed. She then hit me with just 2 more appointments :? . She was telling my wife what was going on, but neither of them could relay the cunning plan.

I went back last week, and she actually destroyed my new tooth, and built a falsie where my new tooth used to be.

I think I am going back tomorrow to have my smile restored. This young dentist has spent hours on my mouth doing what my UK dentist said was impossible. I've had about 6 hours in the chair, and apart from the first day, where I think a lot of pain was unavoidable, the young girl has been incredibly gentle and patient with this wuss. I have been very impressed with her attitude, and her bedside (is that what you call it) manner could not have been better.

The dental practice is Perfect Smile. My wife had used them for a while, so I went along despite a couple of unfavourable reviews on this thread (I think). They may not be the best (I haven't tried anybody else to compare them with), but they were perfect for this big baby. Very gentle and caring, even when I was suffering pain like I'd never known before. This time tomorrow I should have a smile again. :D

Hi bert91157,

The cost at Dazzling Smile was slightly less than Cool Smile, but really, almost the same. Although when I paid the bill for the tooth filling at Dazzle the reception lady said the dentist used 4 "increments" of composite to fill in the broken tooth (it was a large cavity), but the dentist only billed me for 3 "increments". Dont know if it was a first time visitor "bonus" or what the reason was, but I was pleased regardless.

If you live closer to downtown than Cool Smile probably makes more sense, but I prefer the nicer personality of the Dazzling dentist.

new to HH, but 15 years in Udon and I know where your coming from 110%

I also take diazepam 10 mgs prior to any dental care , plus I prefer Nitrous Oxide as well as the local anaesthetic, which brings me to my question, are there any Dentists in HH, that provide Nitrous Oxide ?

I know its general a hospital based medication, but BKK clinics do provide.

I also loose about 4-5 quicks on my finger nails at the same time.
