High BP can also be caused by stress, brought on by work, divorce, death in the family, etc. I am normally 112/80, but this shot up incredibly high when a tragedy occurred. So high I was at risk of a heart attack. Dealing with the stress eventually returned my BP to normal.

I am no medical doctor, but sometimes a short course of prescription narcotics may be the answer.

If the underlying cause is organic, perhaps best to use statins, change your diet, and start exercising.

Some people are genetically predisposed to high BP. My bro in law has had 3 male members of his family die of heart attacks before 40, incl his father and brother. He tends to be naturally on the heavy side. For him, if he wants to live, the only alternative is statins.

I have found a daily teaspoon of Turmeric to be very good.
It does not taste too good either, so that is probably a plus!

I voted "yes, for mild ailment". Fortunately I've never had to deal with anything serious, so can say if alternative treatment works with many illnesses.

I neither "for" or "against" alternative treatments or medical treatments, although I would prefer to use a natural treatment if I knew it does work. I have on more than one occasion cleared up a chest infection simply by chewing raw garlic, of mashing it up and eating it with a slice of bread. Of course it may just be mind over matter, but it worked for me.

To be honest, I'm a bit afraid of going to see a doctor, because they can always find something wrong with you. As I've mentioned on the forum previously, I once had a problem with my back. I was in agony and for about three months, I couldn't even lie down to sleep. I had to sleep sitting up. A cat scan determined that the pain was due to a spinal problem, and I was advised to undergo surgery. Since I was told that there was a small risk of me ending up in a wheelchair, I decided to wait, and with the help of some very powerful painkillers, I boarded a flight to Thailand. To cut a long story short, a toilet attendant fixed by back in a matter of about five seconds. A whole lot of clicking sounds, and the pain vanished instantly. It's probably the one and only time that toilet attendant got a 500 baht tip........lol. Doing some online research later, I discovered that only a very small percentage of people have a perfect spine, so I guess it's easy to misdiagnose. Ironically however, I had told each of the doctors I saw that the problem was probably just a pinched nerve or something similar, but of course, how would I know anything about my own body.

I could mention one or two other similar cases, but I can't be bothered writing too much.....lol.

Buksi......about your high blood pressure. The Chinese have been controlling blood pressure for ages already with Chinese medicine, and they still are, so maybe consider visiting a Chinese doctor, or maybe even have a word with the owner at the Chinese pharmacy on the corner by the traffic lights, just opposite the ESSO filling station. He seems to be very knowledgeable, but I'm not sure how good his English is. He must have every traditional medicine known to man in that shop of his, and many of the locals use him. There's also a traditional "Thai medicine" doctor at Hua-Hin hospital.

I've also heard fish oil can help, and in fact this is supported by the FDA. Well, they did release a statement saying omega-3 rich fish oil can help to prevent heart attacks, and it's not every day that the FDA are willing to acknowledge the effectiveness of natural remedies. In studies that have been carried out, fish oil obtained by eating oil fish was more effective than fish oil from supplements, but the FDA also warn against the risk of heavy metal poisoning if you eat too much fish, so perhaps supplements are a better choice.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

If it is 'amazing' can you provide some real world examples of it working? That's what the poll is about.

It is worth remembering that western medicine started as herbal medicine. Digitalis (Digoxin) which is still a valuable cardiac drug comes from the foxglove flower, Aspirin came from a tree bark, Rawoulfia , the first hypertension drug from a root, the early Anti-malarials were also from tr es in the Amazonian jungle and Penicillin is after all a mould.
Several drugs from Chinese medicine are now being tested in the west and several look very promising. But of course, tested by BIG PHARMA!!

No disc left between L4 and L5 so always in pain. tried acupuncture no help. The only thing that helps strangely is exercise and then lots of stretching, with this the pain eases for a few days.

I've found an 'alternative' cure for high BP without resorting to meds ...

Giving 75% less of a fck than you normally would about everything works a treat, couple that with working 50% less, doing 25% more of what you enjoy, and going about your day at half the pace and you're there!

Checked it yesterday: 116/66 ... :thumb:

If you have high cholesterol or are worried generally about it then maybe try the Benecol products that claim to lower cholesterol through 'Plant Stanol Ester'.......or stop eating too many dairy products.

Or, you can just take a wheatgrass supplement or juice.....along with white tea, spirulina and reishi mushroom (the Chinese call it the immortality mushroom) should cover you for most stuff.

Just a quick casual information post.

Yes, that approach has always worked for me; I've never taken very much of the day all that seriously prior to going to the pub in the evening.

Been on calcium channel blockers for about two years for the BP, helps somewhat, but still borderline. Tried the herbal thing but nothing seemed to happen. Interesting thing, though, was that a close friend convinced me to put the beers aside for three months just now(Buddhist lent -I know, I know) but the surprising thing is that my BP is almost back to the 'normal' range. Not that I guzzle or anything, but a bottle or two in the evenings was a norm. Will probably try to see it through to completion; cutting down seems to have done something.

:offtopic:

Mr. P.
My father used to take Cat's whiskers (Nuad maew in Thai, Kumis Kuching in Malay) for kidney stones after two rounds of surgery. Used to make a tea out of the whole dried plant and drink it in place of water; never had a relapse.
Another friend was hospitalised for kidney problems; three months after taking Cat's whiskers no trace remained.
I have tried some supplements but find ginseng too heaty. I'm of the opinion that a proper diet coupled with moderate exercise does help.
