Directing Taxi's

Post by bluezephyr »

When i stayed in Nonthaburi near a mates we relied on Taxi's a fair bit to get to the main shopping parts near Bang Bua Tong.

We quickly had to learn some directions we were given a peice of paper to show where we were staying on side and 'Big C Bang Yai' on the other.
Not all Taxi drivers could read so it seemed so telling them where to go was quicker than them conferring with other non reading Thai drivers.

Thanks to a young lady my mate got in tow with this is what she taught us.

Excuse my transliteration and please correct my mistakes :D

Turn left, Laio Sai, Khap
Turn right Laio Kwa, Khap
Straight on Tonpai, Khap
Back there, Turn around Tailang, Khap

When it came to saying stop the word 'Yut' was used so i copied and it worked, But now i know a bit more Thai i suppose 'Ti Ni' = Here it is, Would be better to say?

If you needed to know the approximate coast of the trip, Could you ask, Tao Rai Pai.. (location you want to go to?)

How do you say 'I Want to go to?' Is it Maa Jaak Pai... (Hua Hin?)

Any other handy hints gratefully recieved :thumb: in my effort to learn a bit more or more than anything speak what i sort of know correctly.

Go back is Glap Pai, Glap Roht is U Turn.

Straight ahead is Trong Pai.

Also where you've written "Laio" is more "Lee-ao" to my ear.

BaaBaa,

Mrs BB didn't recognise one of those :? When I told her the English, her Thai interpretation was nothing like what you had written.

Its hard to write out in English how you think things should sound, then how somebody else interprets that, plus theres the old B/P and L/R thing. :banghead:

At least I could rely on the Thai text. :thumb:
