Social venues

Post by Feline »

Can anyone please advise me on where, if any, you can join a social club? By that I mean somewhere to go where you can meet people with similar interests, ie, having fun and chatting, of course drinking will go hand in hand. I have been down town to the usual bars but they always seem to be more geared up for the guys with bar girls etc. Very interesting and all that, but not what I am exactly looking for. I would like to go somewhere on a regular basis where I can meet expats, both male and female who like to socialize regularly. :P. What do other expats do for socializing - apart from playing golf that is? Help!

Well Feline..How fit are you? The local runners/walkers group,-Hash House Harriers meet for 1 hour walks/runs each Sat afternoon..many ex-pat ladies are among the ranks, all sociable.
The walkers/runners always finish-off with an hour of eating/drinking and merriment at the meet-site, followed by a meal/more drinks at a nearby restaurant. Group numbers range from 35-75 depending on the season..high-season = more people here
Please look on here for them or tap in 'H2H3' and you should end up on the Hua Hin Hash page.

Hi Feline
If you are female , there is a national ladies group/forum for ex-pat women In Thailand.
There is also a local branch here in Hua Hin, with a growing membership and a few social events like lunches, book swaps, karaoke trips out etc.
You can do as much or as little as you wish, but it is another decent source of information.
I don't go myself, but believe the events are fun and it may well be a good starting point for yourself, if you check it out.

A really naff name I grant you, but it may help.

I do know what you mean and it isn't easy to find the right balance. JW's is probably the best IMO for a regular mixed expat scene, especially if you watch out for any forum gatherings there. Billys used to attract a good afternoon crowd but last I heard that had diminished a lot - and of course that old mainstay the Boat has moved way out.
The Hash is a good idea but does involve physical pain.
Bottom line is that it seems more and more difficult now to coax expats into town (unless it's to do with golf of course! ) So that leaves quizes, pool and darts leagues. I used to spend many happy hours with the darts team in the days when we travelled to Chaam for matches, and there were a lot of women players then both Thai and Farang. There is still darts in HH, but I do get the feeling that there isn't quite so much interest now? Maybe wrong, but certain key players in keeping it all going are no longer in HH.
A sprout is for life - not just for Christmas.

Thanks for replying to my question everyone. I will check out the bars mentioned in JW's reply as a couple of them I am sure I haven't been into.

As I loved walking in my own country the Hash seems a good start but, not so sure about afternoons tho' as the heat/humidity is not appealing.

Paderborn, I have tried many a time to connect to the site you mentioned but I always seem to encounter problems. Have done everything requested but still no luck. I guess I will just have to keep trying.

I know there is a gym etc but as I have a pool in the garden and a cross trainer in the house.....free beach down the hill and a number of other leisure shops round about...it seems a waste of money joining. Still I will not be beaten.....may just have to start something up myself with a Spotlight on fun and socializing. I read on the forum something about lawn bowling....while I have not actually participated in the game myself It has always been a part of my life.....so maybe I will check that out! Maybe they might need help in organizing a social club! Thanks everyone for replying.

Hi again feline.
The chicky net site is a membership, but it is simple to register and there is some good information there. I cannot understand why the site is giving you problems. But perhaps I could report your difficulty to their admin people.

There is an event/get together on the 5th Of October at a nice place in town from 7pm-9pm. I will PM you the details as I am not sure that I will be able to mention the name of the place.
There are 12 Hua hin based women already attending with the possibility of more on the evening.
It may be of interest to you.
Regards
