Best place to buy trees and shrubs

Post by MLS »

Hi, does anyone have a favourite garden centre? I'd like to buy a couple of fan palms (and some pots and shrubs) and could do with suggestions for a good place to buy them. Also, if anyone has recently bought same, I'd like to get a rough idea of what to expect to pay for not-too-small fan palms. Oh, and while we're at it, any advice on how to keep them alive would be appreciated as I seem to have the unfortunate knack of eventually killing off every plant known to Man. Thanks!

There is a great place that has all your looking for but finding it can be difficult since there is no sign out front but only a driveway into it from the main P-- road. Its beyond the airport by a few km but before the FN outlet. Its just after one of the giant roadside signs on the left then you come to a driveway that goes into a forest/garden shop. Two older Thai ladies seem to run it there and Thai prices. Just about any plant, palm or tree you might want is holed up there with some rocks, pots and stepping stones too. Yes, they will deliver and "install" the larger plants too as part of the price.

I have difficulty finding it even though I have been there many times.

Thanks for that! Sounds perfect. Will do a recce, so advance apologies to all having to overtake my hire car creeping uncertainly along the road on the lookout for it.

There are a number of nurseries past the Suanson (road going Sth to Pranburi with 1 place selling advanced specimens. Better take someone who speaks Thai and for goodness sake be careful where you plant them as they do take off in the tropics!

Be sure to plant fan palms facing east and west. We put some along our walls facing north/south before we knew this and as the years go by and they grow they turn to face sunset and sunrise. Our big older ones have turned almost 45 degrees now and are hanging over the wall onto the neighbor's property so have to be cut on one side drastically.

We get everything from a very cheap place in Pranburi but I don't think it has a sign. If you have a Thai wife or GF pm me if you want the phone number. They deliver and plant for a small charge (but they didn't warn us about how we planted the fan palms!).
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Buying trees and shrubs is one thing but knowing what to plant and where is another. Any local recomendations of a tropical plant expert who could design a garden planting scheme would be appreciated.
