Cost of putting in a swimming pool.

Post by mideepuchai »

I plan on moving to Thailand permanently in a couple of years. I am interested in the Hua Hin area. Looking at the real estate ads, I see that their is a lot of emphasis on Westernized sub-divisions with security and a communal pool. The prices I've seen generally run between 3-5 million baht.

I am thinking about a more traditional Thai house, with a little more land.

I was wondering if any of you have any knowledge of the approximate cost of putting in a single-family type swimming pool?

Thanks for any information you can provide me.

Prices will differ much depending of the shape, size and if you want a jaccuzz as well.
Prices would be from 450.000Bt and up, all included.
(Pumps & filters and pumphouse).
Most swimmingpools I've seen here cost about 550.000 - 650.000 Bt.
I intend to live forever - so far so good.

Norseman as usual has his finger on the pulse.
Around 600 000 buys a good quality 8m x 4m pool.

Pool Depth

Post by ITKMAN »

How about the depth of the pool. I want a pool to cool off and if it is too shallow the water will stay warm....I'm guessing that about 2m for about half the pool would work? any facts

Not exactly rocketscience, but the deeper you dig, the colder it gets. Until a certain point of course.
Just remember that the surface watertemp never gets cold in Thailand.
Don't think there is a big temp difference between 1 and 2 meters, but sure it will help with a 2 meter depth I guess. (If you have gills).

Most pools in Hua Hin seem to be between 1.2m and 1.5m deep. I think the prices Gary at GDL Poolshop quotes is for a 1.2m deep pool, best check with him incase I'm wrong though.
But obviously you can specify the depth you want, and pay the extra cost associated.
Our pool is 1.2m deep and although at times we could do with the water a little cooler, also it's nice when you can go in it late at night and not be cold.
Swings and roundabouts.

Built a swimming pool in Bkk a few years ago and prices were quoted per cubic metre. So it obviously costs more to go deeper. Mine has a deep end (2.5m) and a shallow end 11x5 which you don't see so much these days as there are normally built uniform depth. It's well worth it to be able to jump or dive in but may increase the cost beyond the charge per cubic metre. It presents a greater engineering challege to create a structure that can support the uneven weigth and the piles needed to be quite long n Bangkok. Get a guarantee and hire a builder who looks like he'll be around long to honour it. A leaking pool can cost a lot to put right (if it's possible to do so) and can get you sued by your neighbor if can argue that water from pool has damaged his foundations.

How much would you expect to pay for monthly cleaning and maintenance?

2,500 to 3,000 per month (2 times per week) depending on size of pool. Make sure the maintenance includes acid and anti-fungal liquid, otherwise you need to add this yourself.

Pool cleaning equipment costs about 10,000 baht if you want to do it yourself (or train your gardener).. It is cheaper to buy from the two pool shops on the pala-u-road before rockestra. One shop is in the middle near golf view village and the other is on the right going out of town when the shops end and the country road begins.
