where best to stay ??

Post by keesvalk »

we will be in Hua Hin from 14-21 May. this is a trip to have a good look around in Hua Hin for possibly retiring there. are we assuming that best would be to book close to the centre but also not too far from the beach ?. we have browsed but don't know which hotel matches these criteria. Can someone advise or recommend a hotel ?
thanks in advance

Really depends on your budget. Jed Pee Nong or City Beach are safe bets. The prices farther out for similar standard will be less.

I know that Kendo was really pleased with his hotel for the 2nd part of his recent stay here. It was just around the corner from Jed Pee Nong (about 10 yards up the side road from Burger King on your right). Perhaps he will see this, and let you know.

Hi Keesvalk
The second guest house we stayed at was the Jed Pee Nong Guest House it's located around the back of Burger King not to be confused with the the Jed Pee Nong hotel that is to the right of Burger King but yes it's the same family the sister owns the guest house and the brother the hotel.

I have stayed at the hotel a few times and it's clean and quite exceptable it was 900 baht a night cash only but I prefer guest houses and found this one because Big Boy told me to go down this little side soi and take a look at around 8 guest houses. The first one we came to was the Jed Pee Nong Guest House on the right hand side they wanted 1100 baht a night but my wife quickly got that down to a 1000 baht a night again it's cash only. They have a really nice swimming pool rooms are very clean and the staff very friendly.
The location of this guest house is good because you don't get any noise it's also good because outside Burger King is a good pick up and drop off meeting point as there are red and white painted kurb line that means no parking but everyone uses it for dropping off.

At this location you are two Minuits from the beach right next to two money exchange booths and ATMs many restaurants to suit every budget and there's a Seven Eleven almost opposite.

On this soi next to the two Jed Pee's are also the Asada Hotel 1100 baht a night they take cards and also the ( can't remember exactly ) Pua PenVilla very nice complex with swimming pool and that's around 1000baht a night we have not stayed here but have used the pool before when are friends have stayed here.

In my opinion this would be the best part of town to stay in the soi is named Damnokasam Rd spelling? :D on this soi you also have Hot Property real estate office go and have a chat with JW he's a great guy that maybe could answer a whole bunch of questions for ya.

Thanks very much for a great oversight.

we are looking for a hotel not far from centre of town where all shops, supermarkets, etc are but also not far from the beach in case we want to relax a dya.

the price range anywhere around usd 75/max usd 100 per night

we would really appreciate any help because as a newbie in Hua Hin we have no ideas where all those hotels are located

thanks if you can help

Have a look at www.maphuahin.com - it shows the locations of the hotels and links to the online booking system.

If you can bump up your budget a little, the Hilton would be great for you. It has the best location in my opinion, adjacent to the tourist dining/entertainment area of town and right on the beach.

May is the beginning of low season and you should be able to get a pretty good deal there. Look at various websites to check prices as they sometimes differ in price significantly.

On the forum web pages, the Hilton is currently shown as $144++ for their cheapest room, so considerably more than what the op wanted to pay.

Well, that is why I told him to look and various websites, such as latestays, etc. Sometimes you can find real bargains.

Yes, I am a big fan of the Hilton because I think it has the best location in Hua Hin. Staying for seven nights and paying an extra us$350? Is that a lot? Maybe, but when you get back home and look back at your vacation it might not be that much and might be money well spent.

I got a rate of usd 169 for the Hilton and I may accept it for the first 3 days of our stay. then I can see if it is worth it and stay or move. we don't see many other hotels close to the centre and beach.
main reason we are there is to check out cost of living in HH, prices at supermarkets, furniture, electrical appliances, rent, costs of maid, etc, etc
we live in Surabaya (Indonesia) now and plan to retire next year so want to be prepared. in July we will be in HH again and by then we know which is reasonably priced hotel.

thanks for info, hope anyone with better idea will contact us here

cheers

We all have different views, but if the main reason for coming is to check out HH as a potential retirement home, I personally don't see that the hotel needs to be bang in the centre of town and/or near the beach, as you'll need to do some short travelling to check out the things you mention and particularly the locations for property searches.

I've not stayed in the Hilton so can't comment per se, but doubt that it will be as good as the Shangri La in Surabaya where I had the privilege of staying 3-4 years back (also stayed at the Sheraton as well). Hopefully you will get some recommendations for other hotels, but if not the reports in the accommodation section should give you a fairly good steer on what's good and what isn't.
