When you say "there are more seedy bars in Cha Am" do you mean this in a really detrimental way - such as "beware"! .......

or is it a way of saying there are alternative bars or areas in Cha Am - other than the lousy Chicken Coop district - which are considered more acceptable (more friendly & inviting) and offer the opportunity to find company & comfort to those who may wish to occassionaly participate in such activity??

Bradders - yes - 2nd meaning more accurate. Didn't mean "beware".

I should point out I'm not saying Cha Am has better bars and nightlife than Hua Hin, I'm saying IMO its a better place to live. If you need plenty bars and nightlife close to you then you'll prefer Hua Hin.

Thank you for the information on the bar scene anyway Jockey; Iâ€™ll give those beach bars a try sometime.
Iâ€™m always looking for good sea-food restaurants and have tried a couple near the harbour there, do you have any advice on that front?

I have tried most of the seafood restaurants and found Medsai to be the best

Darwinian, thank you for the information, where exactly is Medsai located? The last one I tried was the second on the left as you head into that complex before the harbour. I donâ€™t know the name of it but it was very good; the best chilli crab Iâ€™ve eaten for a long while.

Darn it Jockey, now you are going to screw up Cha Am with all these people from HH. I live in Cha Am and would not consider any other place. The beach is really great and clean and not crowded. Now when I say the beach I am not refering to the main beach. The beach I enjoy is in front of the Holliday Inn Regent and The Veranda resort. If you like walking the beach and time it for around low tied it is outstanding. There are restaurants all along the beach and some are excellent. If you want to be pampered at a reasonable price try the Veranda restaurant everything we have tried there has been good.

I would go on but don't want to encourage a lot of people to move here and change things. But we forgive ya Jockey for letting the cat out of the bag. The wife is not sure I should send this and attract more people.

Medsai is at the northern end of the beach. It is on the right just before you get to the fishing village collection of restaurants.

Ive been toying with the idea of living in Cha am for over a year...

I hope it doesnt change much.... As in the past ive seen Samui change

soo much every year i go... that if it wasnt for friends there id stop

going...

Its a shame...Fell in Love with HH Mind...but wanna live outside a

little... ill Keep the mind open... i be there tomorrow if i could

Had a bungalow built in Cha-am last year and i'd say it's gotta be the best move i've ever made. Absolutely love it,very relaxing place(which we wanted)but close enough to Hua Hin if your after a bit more night life.Most of my family have been out to visit and really enjoyed themselves.Can't retire there just yet but looking forward to spending more and more time there in future.As has been mentioned previously,i just hope Cha-am doesn't change like places like Pattaya have,i can remember when that was nothing more than a fishing village! Totally ruined now.

Got to support Buksida on Bang Saphan. The beaches on the south side of town are great - the old Thai seaside area just to the north are mudflats. Don't make that mistake when you visit. Friendly folks all around - I was stopped once by a cop - he wanted to welcome me to Bang Saphan.

By the market? He's a nice guy too. Never any hassles with Bang Saphan police and farangs - but business as usual with Thais.
