I live in Bangkok, and have weekend home in Cha am. I think Cha am is great. My home is north of the centre on a secluded beach without ponies, jet ski's or traders, but if I want those I can walk 10 mins down the beach and I have them. Nearby (but still far enough away not to see, hear or smell) are nice eating places, even 1 or 2 really very good ones.

I sometimes go to HH, but only when I really have to. Driving into HH reminds me so much of BKK, with all the traffic and the parking difficulties - this is what I eascape from each weekend. Of course shopping opportunities are much more widespread, and really so much aimed towards the foreigner/tourist.

I think Cha Am offers a good opportunity to Chill out, and of course a taste of Thai society not found in HH.

We all like and dis-like different things for different reasons, I think its unfair to give Cha Am a bad name becasue it doesn't offer the same night life as HH, its a very different place to HHand I think it benefits greatly because of that.

Besides, these 2 quite different places are so close, that all can enjoy the benefits of each, when the mood suits.

Unless you're a Masochist! :D
My job provided me with housing here.

Don't get me wrong, Cha'am is a nice place. I've met a few nice people here but if it was up to me, I'd move to Hua Hin in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, my job requires me to stay in Cha'am.
It's a small world after all...

Different strokes for different folks.

Me, I enjoy peace and calm at home (lived in too many cities) but I like to be able to drive to a city area that offers activities.

My trips to Cha Am fit that, easy drive to HH but still good restaurants, etc in Cha Am

Perhaps it will come to be called little Norway.
Yes along with the Scots. I believe the next wave will be Afghanis and Iraqi's followed by Iranians.
I trust that is as is in character another poop pos.t I would hate to see the local mini mart getting bombed cause some Rab Bloke lost his wife to a non Islamic and is trying to get back at her by thinking he will get 32 vigirns! :thumb:

What a racially tolerent group of racial minorities we are!

Let's hope that some of those around us have a more open view than some of the posters here!

new immigrants to cha am.

maybe the new wave of iraqis, afghans, and iranians will open up some new restaurants and bring some new flavors to the area. I think cha am has the best seafood, much better than hua hin, and more reasonably priced. things are much lower priced in general, and less farang oriented. which could be an advantage. there seems to be some bar areas which are catering to the local as well as tourist trade. some people dont like rubbing elbows with the locals as they down their beer, but I dont seem to mind. There is a local mexican restaurant in one beer bar area that serves burritos just like back home.

Home or nest would be appropriate.

I've been many times over the years, I think the owners, staff are nice people.
Here's the address: 259/40 Ruamjit road. If you're coming from Huahin, turn right at the traffic lights straight down to the beach road, turn right, travel a couple of hundred metres and on reaching the first 7/11, you've passed it by 50 metres! Go back and it's under the archway....Don't tell anyone else!
