Bats in Cha-Am

Post by pharvey »

On a separate thread, brianks posted a link to a site which mentioned a ''bat cave'' of sorts, north of Cha Am. Apparently you can witness the bats leaving the cave at dusk ''en masse'' - does anyone know where this is exactly? Going to test out my new camera!! :D :D

Just follow all the old ladies with grey hair, dressed in long, black robes and carrying squirrels. :duck: Pete

What is it with you Steve G and the bl**dy squirrels Pete

Anyway, best location I can get thus far from the web is it's 25km north of Hua Hin........ which in my book puts it damn close to Cha Am.

To be bluntly honest, back when my generation coined slang words, squirrel should have been it. Much more imaginative, proactive and fun than some buck toothed tree chewer or litter box aficionado. :naughty: Pete

Yes, I was in Ratchaburi and could see the millions of bats. Very impressive.
Here are some pictures.

But I cannot tell you, where it is exactly, because I did not drive myself.

You must be there around 6 p.m. The bats will leave the cave more than one hour long.

Donald Allen Tetley (that's his forum member name too) took his hiking club up there a couple of months back. PM him for location and directions. His photos of clouds of bats were amazing.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Drive north to Ratchaburi along the highway leading to Nakhon Pathom. Look for the sign To Chom Bueng and turn there. After about two km. there will be an intersection, turn to right towards Wat Khao Chong Phran (วัดเขาช่องพราน) and you'll find the cave there. It's called Tham Khang Khao (ถ้ำค้างคาว) and it's about 15 km from the intersection.

If you leave Cha-Am or Hua Hin early, you can also visit a pottery factory just before the above mentioned intersection, Khao Bin cave (turn to the left at the intersection mentioned above and a couple of Chinese Buddhist temples on a hill top, on the right hand side of the road leading to the bat cave.

If you are not sure about the roads, google Bat Cave Ratchaburi, pottery factory Ratchaburi and Tham Khao Bin Ratchaburi.

Certainly some confusion on the location when searching the Internet!! :banghead: certainly a tad further than 25Km's away from Cha Am, or are we talking a different place? :?

Anywho, many thanks for the info guys..... yes, even you Randy!!

BG - Thanks for the directions

HHF - Thanks for the advice, but I guess already answered by BG. Can't say I've seen Donald Allen Tetley on the forum, how do you search for members?
