Road accident in Cha-am

Post by rosievictoria »

On 26th February 2008 around 8am on the main road to Cha-am Dan Hughes was killed.
My information is very sparse so I am hoping someone can fill in the gaps.
Dan was a keen golfer and member of Lake view he was also a condo owner in Cha-am.
We stay at the same condo's and was shocked this year to be told of the accident.
Dan was also a very keen cyclist so I am hoping that one of his golf buddys or a cyclist friend can help..
First off I was told the accident was caused by a ute driver now it seems there was also a police car involved.
The police came to the condo after the accident and bolted and padlocked Dan's unit because they said"it was a crime scene". He was killed on the road not in the condo.
When we left in September the condo was still padlocked and not even the staff were allowed to enter it.
Hoping there is someone that remembers the accident.

Many thanks

Road Accident in Cha-am

Post by rosievictoria »

It is almost a year since Dan Hughes was killed in Cha-am.
I notice there were 313 people that viewed my previous post yet I had no reply.
Was there something strange about this accident, are people afraid to talk.
Dan had many friends-where are you?. All the guys he played golf with all the bike riders that went with him on his early morning rides. He was such a good honest person.
Please if you know how this accident happened contact me.

Many thanks

rosievictoria,

My condolences on the loss of your friend, but I didn't know Dan and don't remember hearing or reading anything about the accident except what you posted here.

I did a lot of cycling in and around HH for many years but must confess to not recognising that name. Sorry...

If you do a google for Dan Hughes Thailand there are a few things from other forums but nothing concerning new information.

There is however one link with a photo but not sure if it's the Dan Hughes in question. See the last photo in the below link. Pete

Hi RoseVictoria,

Dan was a friend of myself and very, very good friend of Robert at Munich wine and beer. He will be able to let you know all of the information even the information on the problem at the condo.

The accident was tragic, I was supposed to play golf with him that morning. He was basically at a set of lights and they turned green and he proceded to head across the road when a car came through shooting the red light and hit the car in front of Dan and he was swept away also.

Robert has some nice pictures of Dan in the shop in rememberance.

Hi Rosevictoria,

You're welcome,
Robert's shop is on Sasong road. Sasong road is where the bus station is. There is a crossroads and on each corner there is Rays place, a travel shop, german bakery / Dans place and then Roberts shop. He advertises on HHAD so there may be a map. Good luck.

Hi Rosievictoria.
I sympathise with your loss as i was a good friend of Dans. Played golf and socialised with him on many occasions and always enjoyed his company. Robert organised a golf tounament in his honour and as i played that day i can tell you it was a very fitting and emotional day. Dan would have been smiling for sure, and he is sadly missed by many including myself.
