Australian man dead after brutal bar attack

By Richard Wood 1:17pm Feb 12, 2018

An Australian man has reportedly been beaten to death in a Thai resort bar, with his assailants alleging taking photos of him after the assault.
The man was confronted last Friday by up to five men in the Ruby Lounge, a bar in the holiday resort of Pattaya, southeast of Bangkok, according to the Thai Visa news website.
He was thrown across the bar, punched in the face several times and stamped on, the site said, citing witnesses.
It remains unclear how the assault began but according to social media reports the group initially approached the victim.
He was then reportedly thrown across the bar and punched several times in the head.
While he was on the floor, one attacker then stamped on the man’s head up to 15 times, a witness posted on the Pattaya 24/7 Facebook group.
The witness said the incident lasted about 20 seconds.
About five men accompanying the attacker then allegedly took photos of the beaten Australian as he lay bleeding on the floor. They made no attempt to flee the bar.
Australian consular officials are helping the family of the man, but gave no further details.
“The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is providing consular assistance to the family of an Australian man who died in Thailand,” a Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokesman told Nine.com.au.

“For privacy reasons we are unable to provide further details.”

An updated report on the 9news site has the following additional info:
Thai media reports say the fight was between Mr Robb and an unnamed American, said to be around 30 years old. [...] The American initially fled the scene but later turned himself over to Thai police.

Certainly not sounding like random violence, anyway. I hope the western press don't try to portray it as 'violent Thailand'. They're such truth twisters.

American charged with manslaughter in Pattaya

https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/crime/ ... recent_box

PATTAYA: Police have charged an American who allegedly punched an Australian who died later in the resort town on Friday evening.

While Jose Polanco Jr, 44, an American national, was at Ruby club on Pattaya 6 Road in Bang Lamung district, he saw Benjamin Robb, 43, an Australian national, argue with Roong-arun Sangsuwan, a Thai woman. Mr Robb then squeezed her neck and lifted her off the ground until her face turned blue, police said.

At this point, Mr Polanco intervened and a dispute followed. Mr Polanco punched Mr Robb’s face and he fell to the ground. Mr Robb was later sent to Pattaya Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead later of brain injury.

Mr Polanco did not flee and report to police on the same day. He was initially charged with injuring others causing death, punishable by 3-15 years under the Criminal Code.

Mr Polanco denied the charge, saying he only defended himself. He did not apply for bail.
Police said they had sent reports to the embassies of the two countries and the case would go to court.
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!

Sad to say, it does sound more like random violence now, although engendered by a horrible act by the deceased. Vigilante murder or just an excuse for the Americans to exercise some gang spite and anger, whichever, it's bad for Pattaya. :(

How do we know he is a criminal who has previously been punished?

Thanks. Just because a post mentions a rival forum and is by an inveterate troll, don't mean it ain't true. :)

Seems the story is forever changing, another witness has said the American threw one 'cowardly' punch and the victim hit his head heavily as he fell and that was that.

From a rather confusing report:
