Security at Hua Hin to be stepped up for high season

Post by buksida »

As the high season for tourism at Hua Hin in Prachuap Khiri Khan province has set to begin in October, the provincial police will step up security measures, including use of helicopters for rescue operations along the coastline, Pol Maj Gen Angkul Klaiklueng says.

Pol Maj Gen Angkul, commnder of the 3rd Tourist Police Division, said this after taking an inspection trip to tourist spots in the municipal area including Hua Hin beaches, night markets and beer bars on Wednesday (Sept 20).

He was accompanied in the inspection by officials of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and representatives of tourism business associations in Hua Hin and Cha-am.

“We will have patrol boats and helicopters bought by the Royal Thai Police for rescue operations. Patrols will be carried out by sea, land and air to ensure tourists of safety,” Pol Maj Gen Angkul said.

Orasa Arvutkhom, director of TAT’s Prachuap Khiri Khan office, said she expects the tourist arrivals will increase from next month.

So far about 5 million tourists, both Thais and foreigners, have visited tourist spots in Prachuap Khiri Khan this year and the number is expected to go up by at least 10% by year-end, she said.

Thought: They have seriously got their heads up their arses with these tourist figures being "up". The amount of closed businesses and signs for shops for rent in Hua Hin is astounding, in Prachuap and further south tourists are as rare as rocking horse shit. Many of the resorts are at zero percent occupancy, totally empty, and that is unprecedented at any time of year.

Believe it or not, but they are correct - visitor figures have gone up compared to 2015 and 2016. However what they don't mention is that there is a shift of market and geo source. The ratio of Thai to Foreign visitor to Prachuap Khiri Khan is 80:20 which puts the number of foreign guests into perspective. There is a steady increase of the Chinese Market which makes up for the declining western market. Of course they will not mention this in their statistic, however the big spenders, long-stayers are being replaced by the above mentioned.

And on top, the annual growth of Air BnB of a 103% doesn't help the resort either.....

Cheers,
B.

Yep, it did say 'Thais and foreigners' so the jump they're predicting is a domestic one. There are certainly more Thai tourists in Prachuap than there ever were before.

is this just HH or have they announced more security activity for other tourist destinations? If so it smells like a smoke and mirror activity to counteract the accusations that Thai is not a safe place after the several murders of tourists.

Maybe the explanation is not 100%, but would you rather they did nothing if there is a growing risk, whatever it is?
