A latest update kindly provided by Nereus:

Businesses closing Oct 26 for staff to pay respect to late King

Some businesses have begun to announce closures on Oct 26 to allow their employees to watch the royal cremation of the beloved late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Major Cineplex Group is the latest organisation to announce the closure of operations at all 119 branches nationwide on the date of the cremation so that staff and customers will be able to pay a final tribute to the late King.

The retailer Tesco Lotus also announced earlier that it would close all 1,900 of its locations nationwide from 2pm onwards on Oct 26 so that its 63,000 workers could watch the ceremony. The Bangkok Art and Culture Centre said on its website that it would be closed on Oct 26 for the same reason.

The two companies and the arts centre will reopen as usual on Oct 27.

RIDE HIGHWAYS FOR FREE DURING CREMATION
Drive in or around metro Bangkok for free on several major highways during the height of the cremation ceremony later this month.

The interim cabinet approved Tuesday waiving tolls for motorways 7 and 9 from Oct. 24 to 27. On Oct. 26, the day of cremation, no tolls will be collected on the Don Mueang Tollway and Si Rat-Outer Ring Road Expressway.

The Ministry of Transport proposed lifting tolls to accommodate the many mourners expected to converge on the capital to attend the cremation.

Confirmation that there will not be an alcohol ban tomorrow 13th October. However, everybody is asked to be mindful of the day and keep merrymaking to a minimum.

Call to ban booze on royal cremation day

An anti-drunk driving group is urging the government to ban sales of alcoholic beverages on Oct 26 in honour of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Jetsada Yamsabai, a core member of the Bangkok-based group, yesterday led a group of 30 victims of drunk-driving incidents to Government House to lodge a petition calling for the ban on alcohol sales on the day of the royal cremation ceremony.

The petition was addressed to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha in his capacity as chairman of the national committee on policy governing alcoholic beverages.

TELEVISION ORDERED TO RESTORE FULL COLOR

BANGKOK — A week before the cremation of King Bhumibol, the national broadcasting regulator told television stations Thursday to stop stripping the color from their programming.

The urgent order to restore full color was passed on to all channels yesterday evening with instructions it go into effect immediately after royal news programming. The previous order to desaturate color by 40 percent this month, meant to pay homage ahead of and during the royal funeral, went into effect on Oct. 1.

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission said the change of heart came because the color tones were inconsistent across the different channels.

Other regulations which remain in effect include airing programs about His Majesty the Late King, canceling entertainment shows and displaying the channel logos in the corner of the screen in black and white.

Message from TAT regarding the Royal Cremation for the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) would like to express our deepest appreciation to all visitors to Thailand during this historic period of the Royal Cremation Ceremony for the beloved late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

The ceremony will take place over five days from 25 to 29 October, 2017 at the Royal Crematorium at Sanam Luang ceremonial ground and related venues in Bangkok. For reasons of security and preparation, roads around Sanam Luang and the related venues will be closed to traffic starting from 23 October. For details of the five-day Royal Cremation Ceremony, please click here.

Nationwide, replicas of the Royal Crematorium have been constructed at designated venues in each province, including in Bangkok, to enable members of the public to present sandalwood flowers as a final tribute and farewell to the much-revered late King on 26 October, the Royal Cremation Day.

On this historic day, many businesses will close for either half a day or an entire day to allow their staff to take part in the Royal Cremation Ceremony or to watch the broadcast of the event. For more information, please click here.

During this time, we ask tourists and visitors for their understanding and patience should they experience any inconveniences. We assure you that the Thai people remain as warm and hospitable as ever, and visitors to the kingdom at this sensitive time will get to see the great love and reverence the people have for their beloved late King as they pay a final tribute and farewell.

Many Thais will be wearing black clothes as a sign of mourning. While this is not required of visitors, it would be very much appreciated if they were to wear respectful clothing when in public. For visitors who wish to witness the Royal Cremation Ceremony or to take part in presenting sandalwood flowers, here are recommendations regarding the dress code (source: http://kingrama9.net/).

Govt declares end of mourning on Oct 29
The government has declared that the mourning period for the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej will last until midnight of Oct 29, Prime Minister’s Office Minister Ormsin Chivapruck said.

From Oct 30, mourners can replace their black clothes with gentle ones.

Black and white clothing decorations at government offices, private offices and the people’s residences can be removed.

However, it is not compulsory for the portraits of the late King to be removed and their owners can leave them where they are now as they wish.

During the early stage of leaving the mourning, the people are advised to wear clothes in subdued colours such as brown and blue.
