France has had high speed trains since the 1980's and holds the record for the fastest wheeled train at over 350 mph.

The S'pore and Malaysian govt have just signed to start the SP > KL HST. 350K in a little over 90min.
With the Chinese assisting the Loa govt to bringa HST from China to Vientiane-- Thai is going to look sad with its water buffalo speed train in between the two.

High-speed train projects face delay
Plans to begin four high-speed train projects this year now will be put off until next year, though the timeframe will remain the same, Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith says.

The minister plans to tell the cabinet next week that there will be no significant progress on the projects late this year as originally envisaged.

The projects are a 252.5km Bangkok-Nakhon Ratchasima route under the 179-billion-baht Thai-Chinese joint development; a 382km Bangkok-Phitsanulok rail track under the 224-billion-baht Thai-Japanese venture, and the 193.5km Bangkok-Rayong and 165km Bangkok-Hua Hin routes, worth about 152 billion baht and 94.6 billion baht respectively. The delay is mainly due to unfinished studies on the projects.

Bangkok-Hua Hin high-speed link hits new delay

In a nut shell....they're not sure there will be enough passenger demand to justify it.....

Well that puts paid to the rumours that the work currently going on by the railway on soi 88 is to do with upgrading the line to dual track.

The high speed rail could never be on ground level in Thailand, it would hit hundreds of vehicles every day

that will be a Chinese troop train used for the take over of Thailand. the troops will be disguised as tourists and cautioned not to spit in public and push people when shopping.

handdrummer--- I dont think that China will take over SE Asia using troops but by a process of neo-colonialism where you take over the economy. ASEAN andAEC are attemts to halt this but Thai by its non-coperation is shooting itself in the foot--but that is what Thai does best
