[Unconfirmed] Large demonstrations going on in Bangkok

Post by huahin4ever » Tue Feb 13, 2018 7:24 pm

Only Thai so far, but I guess English/International news will be available soon. Some says as many as 200.000 are already gathered and more are coming in. Trains and busses are shut down they say.

According to my friend demonstrations are on going now. He is too scared to post anything on FB. He says it's like they are trying to keep it quiet hoping it will not escalate, but according to him the army is mobilizing. This could get ugly. I guess we just have to wait and see what happens, and eventually there will for sure be something in the normal news channels.

The cynic in me thinks fake news and rumour. The sort of thing purportedly happening with 200,000 people and transport being shut down could not be kept quiet without shutting down the phone and internet networks. And that would in itself be counter productive for the government. It would be the end of P's career.

Prayut vows to go after democracy activists

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Tuesday vowed to get tough on political agitators, saying all people must be subject to the law.

He was referring to anti-coup activists stepping up campaigns against the regime. His comments came after around 500 people gathered near Democracy Monument on Saturday to pressure the premier into holing a general election this year.

"I do not know what they want," said Gen Prayut. "They're trying to take the country backwards ... and the government cannot condone it."

He said he was concerned about university students who took part in the recent protest, as they could face prosecution.

"I do not know what they want," said Gen Prayut.
