Handsome Hua Hin tortoise seeks fertile mate.

Post by wenshidi »

We are lucky enough to have an Asian tortoise that has made his home in our garden. His name is Mortimer and he is yearning to meet his Isabella. The Asian tortoise is an endangered species and we would like to help him find a mate so that we can do our bit to re-populate the species. If you have a tortoise and would like to send her over for a little matchmaking, we can offer comfortable accommodations and an unending supply of fresh fruit and vegetables. Please drop me a PM so that we can talk.

The usual procedure in this situation is to request are rather hefty 'stud fee' but as we talking about the re-population an endangered species, I would be more than will to forgo any of the regular charges if you happen to know any suitable females. :P

Also, if they like each other and decide to stay together, as the owner of the male you may be required to come up with a hefty dowery...

Dumb question; Is it easy to tell tortoise males from females?
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

They are very easy to sex. If you pick them up and shake them, the male should rattle.

Just wanted to confirm that this tortoise is not in captivity. We have a big garden, and it has been living here ever since we have arrived. It seems to have a few bushes that it prefers and even though we often leave the gates wide open, it does not seem to want to leave. It is certainly not in a cage or anything similar.
We try and provide a nice environment for as much of the native wildlife as possible but we do not in any way restrict their comings or goings.

Late 70's UK you could buy a tortoise from the pet shop for a quid. Not being allowed normal pet I was placated with two of the little bastards. Aged eight I had no idea why I needed two of them. I wanted a cat really.

Natural selection prevailing one died and the other got pretty big. Mid 80's tortoise imports were banned and they were fetching a hundred notes each.

One day I came home to find my mum had sold it and bought a microwave.
To be fair it was much more useful.

Well they both have that hard outer shell, so snuggling up at night must have been the same with the microwave....
