Elephant sent for "attitude adjustment":
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
Wayward elephant captured after months-long hunt

https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/genera ... -long-hunt

Thailand's most wanted elephant has been recaptured after months of wandering, raiding crops and killing at least one person, and returned to the detention centre he fled from - for further attitude adjustment.

Park authorities and Sidor Daeng, the 15-year-old bull elephant, have played hide-and-seek since early January, when he wandered away from Khao Takrup, a forest area in Wang Nam Yen district of Sa Kaeo used as a detention centre for "problematic" wild animals. It is part of the Khao Ang Ru Nai Wildlife Sanctuary.

Sidor Daeng roamed the eastern region, raiding fruit orchards and crop fields and killing one person who got in his way.
Park officials described him as smart but moody, and ready to attack anyone who disturbs him. That made Sidor Daeng both difficult to find, and dangerous, they added.

After leaving the detention forest the elephant has attacked a motorcyclist in a rubber plantation in Na Yai Am district of Chanthaburi in January, killing the mother who was driving and seriously injuring her son, who was riding pillion.
Farmers in Sa Kaeo, Chanthaburi and Trat lived in fear after the return of Sidor Daeng. Many orchards in these provinces were damaged, and he was blamed.

"It's back!! Plai Sidor Daeng comes down from Khao Soi Dao to raid Sa Kaeo," screamed a headline on Matichon online on Jan 8. Plai means a male elephant in Thai.

Sidor Daeng was believed to have crossed the border into Cambodia that month and later returned to Thailand. Most recently, he had been seen in the forest around Chanthaburi.

Park officials, local officials, soldiers and volunteers, about 100 in total, searched and searched for him and finally found the elephant at Ban Tabok Pia in Makham district at 8.30pm on Thursday.

Five tranquiliser darts fired from guns were needed to sedate him, and a large backhoe from the Chanthaburi Provincial Administration Organisation to lift the seven-tonne elephant onto a 10-wheel truck. He was then returned to Khao Takrub.

Sidor Daeng is home again - for now.

Indonesian woman swallowed by giant python http://www.nationmultimedia.com/detail/ ... s/30347905

An Indonesian woman has been found in the belly of a giant python after the swollen snake was captured near where she vanished while tending her vegetable garden, police said Saturday.

The body of 54-year-old Wa Tiba was found Friday when villagers cut open the seven-metre (23-foot) python which was found bloated in the village of Persiapan Lawela on the island of Muna, offshore of Sulawesi."Residents were suspicious the snake swallowed the victim, so they killed it, then carried it out of the garden," said local police chief Hamka, who like many Indonesians has only one name."The snake's belly was cut open and the body of the victim was found inside."

Some 100 residents, including worried relatives, launched a search for the woman after she failed to return from her garden Thursday night.Hamka said villagers found the giant serpent lying about 30 metres from Tiba's sandals and machete, adding she was swallowed head first and her body was found intact. The garden in which she disappeared was at the base of a rocky cliff, pockmarked by caves, and known to be home to snakes, Hamka added.Giant pythons, which regularly top six metres, are commonly found in Indonesia and the Philippines. While the serpents have been known to attack small animals, attempts to eat people are rare.In March last year, a farmer was killed by a python in the village of Salubiro on Sulawesi island.

Jumbo elephant escapes captivity for second time

Sidor Daeng, a 15-year-old bull elephant which killed one person previously, fled from a detention centre in Sa Kaeo province once again on Saturday after he had been recaptured on Thursday.

Decha Nilwichien, chief of the Khao Ang Rue Nai Wildlife Sanctuary, said the elephant destroyed the detention's electric fence and escaped from the centre in Khao Takrub, a forest area in Wang Nam Yen district, in the early hours of Friday. Khao Takrup is part of the wildlife sanctuary.

Forest officials have been deployed to track down the animal and a warning has been issued to villagers who live near the sanctuary which covers five provinces: Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Sa Kaeo.
On Thursday, Sidor Daeng, Asia's heaviest elephant weighing seven tonnes, was recaptured after he fled from the centre in January.

Sidor Daeng is believed to have roamed the eastern region, raiding fruit orchards and crop fields and killing one person who got in his way.

The pachyderm reportedly entered Cambodia via Sa Kaeo's Klong Hat district and attacked a woman.
It then returned to Chanthaburi via Soi Dao district.

Park officials, local officials, soldiers and volunteers, about 100 in total, launched a massive search operation and the elephant was found at Ban Tabok Pia in Makham district on Thursday morning.

Five tranquiliser darts were fired to sedate Sidor Daeng and a large backhoe was called in from the Chanthaburi Provincial Administration Organisation to lift the seven-tonne elephant onto a 10-wheel truck.
Park officials have described Sidor Daeng as smart but moody.

Competition for black Thai Chicken? Never heard of this before and I am damn sure I would not be eating it!

Woman outraged as Coles says green chicken 'safe to eat'

https://au.news.yahoo.com/woman-outrage ... 39539.html

A Victorian woman preparing for her weekend roast dinner got an unexpected shock when she cut open her supermarket-bought chicken to discover the flesh inside was green.

Posting a picture of the chicken, bought from Coles in the inner-city suburb of Northcote, the woman wrote: “Upon cooking dinner tonight, we opened a packet of 4 chicken breasts to separate … we added 1 to a tray of roast veggies we were in the process of cooking, and bagged the rest to freeze. On the last one, this is what we see. Absolutely disgusting!”

“We had to throw out the dinner we were cooking,” she added, noting the RSPCA-approved chicken was still within its expiry date.

“Outraged. We will not be buying from Coles after this.”
“Omg yuck,” one person wrote beneath the picture.
“Comes with free smooshed avocado,” wrote another.

However, a Coles spokesperson has confirmed that the green flesh is neither disease nor poison – and is thoroughly safe to eat.

The green flesh is a result of deep pectoral myopathy – colloquially referred to as Green Muscle Disease – which occurs when a bird flaps its wings too vigorously, causing oxygen deficiency and muscle discolouration.

“Deep pectoral myopathy (DPM) is a green discolouration of the flesh caused when swelling occurs as a result of oxygen deficiency in the muscle,” a Coles spokesperson told Yahoo 7 News.

“This usually happens from the bird flapping its wings too much. It is not harmful to eat and the taste of the chicken would not be altered.”

However Coles said anyone who had purchased a “green chicken” was welcome to return the item to their nearest store for a refund or replacement.

The condition is common in heavy-breasted broiler chickens, but it is not detectable from the outside – it is only obvious once the chicken is cut into or sliced open.

Watch out kids, it may not be your Grandpa. But then, all Chinese look the same:
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
Grandfather collects wrong child from kindergarten and takes him for injection

https://au.news.yahoo.com/grandfather-c ... 16901.html

A grandfather has accidentally picked up the wrong boy at his grandson’s kindergarten before taking him for an injection.

The confused elderly man was spotted on CCTV footage taking his grandson’s classmate from their classroom and out of the kindergarten’s gate on June 8 in Guiyang, southwest China, Chinese news site Hangzhou.com.cn reported.

Kindergarten staff were left in a panic when the mother of the taken child, identified only by his first name Hongyu, failed to find her six-year-old son at the preschool.

Parents and teachers circulated posts on messaging app WeChat, sharing the security camera footage and appealing for help to track down the boy.

It took four hours before a parent in a WeChat group identified the elderly man as his father and realised that he must have taken the wrong child home.

During their brief time together, the grandfather took the boy shopping and even took the boy to the hospital for a flu vaccination after being told his grandson needed one.

The man was not familiar with his own grandson because he had just moved to the city from the outskirts. The young boy had reportedly told the man that he was not his grandfather but as he is partially deaf, he struggled to hear him.
Adding to the confusion, Hongyu’s name is very similar to that of the man’s real grandchild named Hongrui.

The kindergarten’s headmistress told a Guizhou television station that none of the staff noticed anything unusual when the elderly man picked up Hongyu, because the boy had called him “grandfather”.
In China, elderly men are often referred to as grandpa by children as a sign of respect.

The headmistress said that the school was liable and was willing to offer compensation, while the grandfather indicated that, in light of the injection, he was willing to arrange a full medical check-up for Hongyu.

Kanga-brew! Manky the roo snapped 'waiting' at bar for a drink

https://au.news.yahoo.com/kanga-brew-ma ... 13667.html

A kangaroo photographed standing at a West Australian bar has caused a stir on social media.
In the photo, which was shared on satirical Instagram page Brown Cardigan on Friday, the kangaroo is seen next to stools and a table staring at the empty bar.

The caption joked the roo was after “an ice cold long neck at 7.40am”.

The kangaroo pictured is Manky, standing at the John Forrest Tavern, northeast of Perth, which is situated in John Forrest National Park.
Kangaroos are known to visit the premises and sometimes go into the pub.
It is unclear when this latest photo of Manky was taken.

If you’re a cricket fan, this is almost unbelievable - two teams in England, High Wycombe Vs Peterborough, are playing in the last 16 of the National Club Championship and High Wycombe are on 186 for 3, needing just 3 more runs to win with 12 balls to face. They ended up all out on 187, losing 7 wickets in 11 balls adding just 1 run in the process. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/44613032

Scottish farmer's hilarious take on UK heatwave

https://au.news.yahoo.com/scottish-farm ... 43069.html

A Scottish farmer has amused millions of people with his video showing his struggle with the heatwave gripping the UK this week.
Brits have been complaining about the unusually hot weather. Temperatures have soared in Glasgow with the mercury hitting 32 on Thursday. The BBC reports it was the hottest day in Scotland in 23 years.

“We’ve been about three weeks without any rain, things are seriously dry,” the unnamed farmer said in the video posted by BBC Scotland .
“It’s so hot, I’ve never seen it so hot. It must be at least 14-and-a-half, maybe even 15 degrees.
“Things are really beginning to burn up now. The grass and everything, just fair, fair dry. We’re fair needing a day’s rain.”

The farmer then said he was in a bit of a situation as his truck had broken down about 400 metres from his farm.(probably a bloody Land Rover)

“I’m out of water so if – and it’s so hot, oh God it’s so hot – so if this is my last message and I didn’t make it home and I and I die out here due to heat exhaustion tell Willy I’ll not be at darts tonight and tell my sister Elsa that there’s actually a scotch egg in the fridge which will be out of date on Thursday,” he said.

Woman shocked as magpie appears to strike up polite conversation

https://au.news.yahoo.com/woman-shocked ... 31362.html

(need the sound on)
A woman has filmed her encounter with what sounds like a talking magpie.
Lisa Brooks was walking through a park in Yorkshire, England last week when she found the bird on the ground sounding like it was talking. She shared video of it on Facebook.

The bird squawks at her.
“You alright?” it appears to say.
The magpie keeps playing with a twig but then steps up onto a perch.

It then sounds like the bird says: “You alright, love?”

Ms Brooks asks the bird the same question.
“I’m alright, I’m alright,” it sounds like the bird replies.

The video has more than 1.8 million views with many left in stitches over the “conversation” between the two.
“They’re taking over,” one man wrote.

Others have pointed out the bird sounds like it has an accent.
“I just think it’s funny because it has a northern accent,” one man wrote.
Ms Brooks told the Sun she also thinks the bird is a local.
“I found it absolutely hilarious,” she said.
“It must be a local – it has a proper Yorkshire accent.”
......................................................................................................................
Where my late Mother lived in Australia was next to farm land. There was one Magpie that used to come and "knock" on the glass front door of the house with its beak. She would feed it some bread and away it would go for a couple of days before coming back and repeating the show again! People used to say that you could teach them to talk, but had to split thier tongue first.

Man with no arms charged with stabbing tourist

https://au.news.yahoo.com/man-no-arms-c ... 02389.html

A homeless man with no arms has been charged with stabbing a tourist.
Jonathan Crenshaw, 46, held a pair of scissors with his feet and stabbed 22-year-old Cesar Coronado just after midnight early Tuesday, on South Florida, US, according to police.

Crenshaw is reportedly a popular fixture in the area, known for painting on canvases along a trendy spot in South Beach, The Miami Herald reported.

According to the arrest report, Crenshaw says he was lying down when Coronado, a Chicago tourist, approached him and punched him in the head. Police say Crenshaw stabbed Coronado twice and fled.

A friend who was traveling with Coronado said they asked Crenshaw for directions when he suddenly jumped up and stabbed Coronado in his arm. He was taken to the hospital.

Crenshaw has been charged with aggravated battery.

Woman didn't know she was pregnant until she gave birth to twins

https://au.be.yahoo.com/woman-didnt-kno ... 57230.html

A young mum got the shock of her life when she got up in the middle of the night thinking she needed the toilet — but instead gave birth to surprise twins.
Beth Bamford claims she had no idea she was pregnant and was stunned when she ended up giving birth alone in her bathroom.
The 21-year-old, from Stoke-on-Trent, UK, gave birth to 2.5kg daughter Willow as boyfriend Andy Morris, 22, lay sound asleep in the next room.

After the shock arrival, Beth called for an ambulance and emergency services talked her through pushing out the afterbirth, but instead out popped twin, Freya, weighing 2.3kgs.

Beth, who was already a mum-of-two, said she’d visited her doctor numerous times thinking she was ill but neither the mum nor her doctors realised it was because she was pregnant.
“It’s a big shock but a nice surprise. I didn’t know I was pregnant at all,” she said. “I was in bed with my partner and I was getting pains.”
