915 coins found inside sick turtle

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/general ... ick-turtle

Veterinarians laboured for seven hours to remove 915 coins weighing five kilogrammes from a sea turtle suffering chronic stomach ache.

“It is hard to imagine how it swallowed such a large number of coins. I've never seen such a case before," said Pasakorn Brikshavana, of Chulalongkorn University's faculty of veterinary science.

They spent seven hours helping "Om Sin", half of the time scooping out the coins -- both local and foreign -- from its stomach.

The surgeons did not expect the surgery on the unfortunate ailing turtle to take so long - until faced with the huge coin cache in its stomach, which required a bigger cut than they originally planned.

Last month, Om Sin, Thai for piggy bank, was sent to the faculty from the Sea Turtle Conservation Centre of the Royal Thai Navy in Sattahip district in Chonburi last month after it barely swam. A CT scan at the university shocked vets when they saw the mound of coins.

It was one of the 26 turtles relocated to the centre from a pond in Sri Racha district in Chon Buri after the town municipality planned to renovate the place.

The turtle will be under the care of the faculty for one week before being sent back to the centre for full rehabilitation.

According to Thai belief, throwing coins into a turtle pond would stop bad luck.

Hot Lawyer:

Defence lawyer’s pants burst into flames during closing argument

https://thewest.com.au/news/offbeat/def ... b88410426z

A Miami defense lawyer’s pants burst into flames Wednesday afternoon as he began his closing arguments in front of a jury — in an arson case.

Stephen Gutierrez, who was arguing that his client’s car spontaneously combusted and was not intentionally set on fire, had been fiddling in his pocket as he was about to address jurors when smoke began billowing out his right pocket, witnesses told the Miami Herald.

He rushed out of the Miami courtroom, leaving spectators stunned. After jurors were ushered out, Gutierrez returned unharmed, with a singed pocket, and insisted it wasn’t a staged defense demonstration gone wrong, observers said.

Instead, Gutierrez blamed a faulty battery in an e-cigarette, witnesses told the Herald.
“It was surreal,”one observer said.

Repeated calls to Gutierrez’s cellphone went unanswered. Miami-Dade police and prosecutors are now investigating the episode. Officers seized several frayed e-cigarette batteries as evidence.

“A lot of people could have been hurt,”another observer in court told the Herald.

Gutierrez was representing Claudy Charles, 48, who is accused of intentionally setting his car on fire in South Miami-Dade. He had just started his closing arguments when the fire broke out. Jurors convicted Charles anyway of second-degree arson.

LOL, I have a friend in the UK who often complains it is too windy to ride his bike, and Mrs BB claimed to have been blown off her bike once. Until now, I've considered it BS, but maybe they were right :D

Horrified Indonesian villagers find their mate inside a python

https://thewest.com.au/news/world/horri ... b88430707z

Jakarta A missing farmer has been found dead inside the stomach of a seven-metre long python in Indonesia’s West Sulawesi province.

Residents in Karossa district caught the snake on Monday while they were looking for Akbar, who had failed to return home after leaving to harvest palm oil in a nearby plantation the previous day, the Straits Times reported.

When they cut the python open, the found the fully-clothed body of Akbar, 25, in its belly.

Graphic vision of the incident - which we have elected not to show - surfaced on YouTube and social media this week (if you’re feeling especially strong of stomach, you can watch it here).

“People had heard cries from the palm grove the night before Akbar was found in the snake’s stomach,” village secretary Salubiro Junaidi told the newspaper.

“When the snake was captured, the boots Akbar was wearing were clearly visible in the stomach of the snake.

“Resident cut open the belly of the snake and Akbar was lifeless.”

"New York Firm Unveils Plan to Hang Skyscraper From Asteroid

A New York architecture firm is taking experimental design out of this world with a plan to hang a skyscraper from an asteroid that would roam between the northern and southern hemispheres.

The Analemma Tower, which Cloud Architecture Office is calling the “world’s tallest building ever,” would hang from the sky, suspended by air cables attached to an asteroid.

It would travel a figure-eight route over the Earth’s surface, slowing its orbit over New York City, and returning to the same point every 24 hours, according to the company’s initial design plans.
