Subway Hua Hin

Post by huahin4ever »

I was in Bluport yesterday and noticed that Subway which were close to Gourmet Market has gone. Anyone knows if they have relocated to anothef location, or are there no more Subway outlets in Hua Hin now?

I don't think there are any more. I stopped going to the one in Bluport because I was deliberately short changed. I paid with a 1,000 Baht. I didn't trust the guy behind the counter so I counted my change as I walked away. I noticed that I was 100 Baht short. I turned around but before I could walk back or say anything he opened the till, took 100 Baht out and gave it to me. I never went back after that.

When I was last in HH about 4 months ago I was disappointed to find that the Subway that used to be near McDonalds downtown was no longer. 😕

I don't think they had much business. Not really a good concept for Thailand.

Ah, now I know what had chenged whilst in Bkk. I couldn't put my finger on it, but now I know - that overwhelming 'Subway smell' that is the same wherever there is a branch, has gone! I looked at that outlet once and nothing looked particularly fresh, so I passed.

Well they survived in Hua Hin for many years. More than ten years I'm sure.

Really? I never saw them before Bluport opened. But I've only been here 2 years.

McDs is the only tenant in that plaza. Used to have a Subway downstairs and an American BBQ that is very successful in BKK upstairs, its one of those places that cant draw a crowd.

But Ogen is popular and they are in the same spot Subway had in that complex.

It's a long long time since I used to visit that complex on a regular basis. I used to go there 2 or 3 times a week. The BBQ upstairs was always busy. Subway nearly always had a small queue. Even the coffee shop and other shops above McD got their fair share of customers. What happened?

And it once had a coffee shop upstairs and a bookshop. I puzzle about why it doesn't work, I just assumed rents are too high?

Edit - oops posted before reading the above post!

There's a Subway in the very bottom basement of Suvarnabumi airport that I go to while waiting for my flights, near the top of the moving walkway coming up from the Airport Rail Link station. I hope it's still there!

It was there on 12 Dec. However, like other Subway outlets it's showing the same signs of financial problems. The vegetable toppings are past their prime. So it's good they put so little of them on the sandwiches?

The Subway parent company is in financial trouble. Their number of customers keeps dropping. Subway has long since been criticized for practicing a particularly harsh form of what many franchise companies do. When the parent company isn't seeing the profits they want, they squeeze the franchise holders. I expect each foreign operation is also beholden to the parent company, so they're being squeezed too.

This sums up the linked article "The U.S. House of Representatives' small-business committee studied the franchise industry for six years, and staff economist Dean Sagar concludes: 'Subway is the biggest problem in franchising and emerges as one of the key examples of every abuse you can think of.' "
