This thread is about buying joints of beef to roast at home. not about eating in hotels or restaurants.
First grade version:

1. Look at the picture
2. If the picture is what is desired, plan a trip to BKK.

3. Go to the restaurant.
4. Sample the product.
5. If the roast is what you wanted, compliment them.

6. Tell them you live in Hua Hin and would love to have an uncooked roast now and then.

7. Ask if you could buy one from them.
8. Get told sorry we can't deliver raw meat to Hua Hin.

9. Cry all the way back to HH over your very expensive round trip meal.

Superb, thank you. Enough recommendations from forum users to make it an essential try.

Just have to wait for the wife to get back to Thailand to know what to ask for. I have no idea what beef joint to ask for, rolled boned topside or something?

I'd like to greet her with a roast dinner in two weeks' time but I'm clueless with buying beef (except steak, of course) :) .

If you go to the French butcher, just tell him you want a nice joint of beef to do a roast dinner for your wife and I'm sure he'll give you something appropriate. If you don't speak French, keep it simple. He's a nice fellah.
This is the way

There is a good reason for beef roast being scarcely available.
No Thai kitchen has an oven. No Thai meal needs one.

Who are the customers then, how many of them?

The Palm Bistro do not seem to have any trouble sourcing suitable beef to roast.

Villa Market sell their meat as well as more expensive aussie beef etc.. They had some big chunks of beef when I looked the other week, don't ask me about cuts though, as I never cook roast beef. But they diced some beef for me for a casserole, not sure where it came from though, but it was very good, as slow cooked meat should be.

I was thinking that and I agree with you. Very nice beef there.

God, I've got the horseradish sauce. Brought it back from the UK when last there. I'll have to check the expiry date but it's in the fridge.
Whilst away, my wife went and bought one of those turbo ovens. However, apart from once putting a whole chicken in it, it serves its purpose by cooking my wife's fish.
Maybe more Thai people are now realising that there's another way to cook.
I'm just back in the stone age and have to use all that oil.

May I suggest you ask the French Butcher - they used to close between 11.00 and 3.00 from what I remember. Anyway he will give you the best advice. Personally I would get a Rib of Beef or Sirloin - enjoy!
