The Quacking Oats? - Contaminated Oats Chips

Post by Farang »

WARNING!

I bought the other day a bag of Oats Chips from Villa Market. On crunching on them today I was amazed by their hardness and crunch. On closer inspection I noticed there was several pieces of glass in my mouth. What I had not as yet swallowed I fished out for closer inspection and snapped a photo of them.
Yes, it was glass. I am not sure how many I have swallowed, so I’ll have an exciting 48 hours in front of me.
However, and this is the intent of this posting:

Be extra careful of the Oat Chips from Villa Market.

Are you sure they aren't diamonds? :D

Seriously, they probably won't do you any harm. Have you taken it up with Villa Market? They should be told because it's probably a contaminated batch, and needs to be taken off sale.

^^ or they might raise the prices and sell them as a limited edition!

Looks like car window glass, designed to shatter into pieces with rounded edges. Hope everything comes out all right.

Contaminated food is a serious matter. So is not having gone immediately to the Villa Market management.

Do not assume: I was in contact with VM management the first moment I could. I have sent them photos et al. They have told me they are sorry and this incident shall not happen again.

Why do I feel I should not have posted about this at all?

I for one am grateful. OK, I don't use Villa Market very much, but if that was a product I used, it would have been binned if there was any doubt at all. I'd hate to think of one of my granddaughters getting a mouthful of glass.

Is that all that they have told you? If you are not happy with the response please pm me for a number to call in head office.

I'm surprised they even apologised! I have bought many things in there that have been out of date or spoilt. Most recently packed Ham that was so rotten when I opened it, the whole house got the smell, which was vile.
All I managed to get out of them was store credit. Certainly no apology.
I'm looking forward to seeing what the new place in blue port is like as I no longer dare use Villa.

I really can't answer that question for you, but I hope that in future posts you'll try to use a subject title that is a bit more informative and to the point. "The quacking oats ?", while probably a bit cute, really doesn't convey much information on the real issue, the bits of glass found in the package of food. Many people, myself included, couldn't care less about "quacking oats", so might tend to ignore an important safety warning / reminder and consequently be harmed when they might instead have been spared the dangers of eating glass by use of a more informative title.
Best regards.

Thanks for the head-up. A very valid point. Luckily you did, however, read the story in spite of the less than informative subject title.

Simply you don't, intentionally! But how often do you check the expiry date on every product you buy at the supermarket? Most of us put trust in the shop that they put things on the shelf that are in date.
If you're lucky, you spot any out of date stuff in the shop and don't buy it.

In the case of the meat, it was sealed in a vacuum pack and marked as being well within the use by date. Don't think anyone could have known before hand.....

since living in thailand I always check, as per my thai wife, the expiration dates on food packages. as she says, " you can't trust thais."

in the case of the in date meat you 're correct.
