are Fray Bentos products not of Uruguay decent.

also you would not want to know what goes in these pies, they used to corn beef pies during WW2 , made of a cows head only
What a lot of bull (see what I did there people?..).

You are wrong on all three counts. Also, do you know how to use the Internet?
http://www.baxters.com/product-range/fraybentos
I can use the internet, Baxters have only had the rights to the fray bentos name since 2011, it was purchased by after the office of fair trading forced the previous owners to sell it.

They started off in Uruguay in a town called " Fray Bentos "
and it gets worse, the actual idea and funding was originally provided by a German.

they only started producing in the UK after 1968 ish , due to change of government in Uruguay.

Now feel free to say sorry for accusing it of being Bull.
Err ... sorry, not sorry.

It's complete bull. The factory/business was never at any time owned by Argentinians, so no, not of Argentine descent. The company from its inception (even before the Fray Bentos name) was a BRITISH company founded in the UK by a German.

Other bull:
This thread was not named British pies.
Meat content is strictly controlled by law, stop with the BS about hooves and horns please.

no one mentioned Argentina , why have you mentioned , I said it was first produced in Uruguay.
The company that the german created in the UK was a company that specialised in Meat extraction, this company then opened up subsidiary companies such as OXO and Fray bentos, but we are splitting hairs here and arguing over a trivial issue. the meat was originally from Uruguay not Britain so how can we regard it as a British Classic.
Especially when it is rammed full lips and ar$eholes and toes.

Peace dude

Guys this is about pies in Hua Hin. It has nothing to do with the history of a pie manufacturer. Please keep this relevant to the manufacture, supply and consumption of pies within the Hua Hin area.

My mistake on the geography, yes Uruguay/Argentine border.
Your other points are all trolling nonsense. And please get back to 'Pies of Hua Hin' before the thread nazis start in on you.

Was walking around Gourmet Market in BluPort yesterday, saw some frozen pies in the freezers, and thought of this thread! There was "steak and something" (kidney? onion? I can't remember) for I think 120bt, and a pork and something for 90ish baht. Think there were some other options, too.

Gourmet Market, you must be rich! I buy a particular bottled salad dressing there because not seen the one I really like anywhere else, but that's all. :D

That's not cheap for a steak + something pie if it's locally made. If imported then maybe it is. More info please! :)

I have no further info... I neither know, nor care, if they were made locally, abroad, or extra-terrestrially. Next time I'm in there I'll try and note the brand name. Think it began with a P.

I don't find gourmet particularly expensive, but then I don't do a whole lot of cooking at home... It's a convenient place to go for me; I generally use it for the salad bar, frozen ready meals and "Hua-Hin Ham & Bacon" sausages.

There are 2/3 various frozen pie brands available in Gourmet Market, including HHH&B, they have a selection in two different freezer areas, one for pies, pasties, quiches and a few other items, with the other used for their sausages, burgers and the like. They also have an area in one of the chilled food 'islands' where they sell a range of fresh 'speciality' sausages, pork pies, sausage rolls, hams and quiche. If you can get them, I recommend the curried pork sausages. Very more-ish!

HHH&B recently announced on here that they now supply various Mall Group outlets (Bluport is partly owned by the Mall Group), including their flagship stores in Bangkok.

First step to HHH&B only selling to retail outlets maybe. Hafele are going that route with some of their lines (yes I know that's NOT FOOD). Less work for more sales, I couldn't blame them if they did.

You are wrong mate, this thread is about "Pies in Hua Hin" so I assume it doesn't matter where they come from. :D

Meat Pies in Hua Hin

Post by loua_oz »

Not replying to any posts older than 1 month, made tis one.

A bakery, on the Phetkassen Rd, going from Cha Am. Can't remember the name but the pies there were not a Thai product, some Western (UK) touch could be in charge. Not as good as in Australia but still good.

It is next to this restaurant

Inside, letargic Thai staff, all slow

But the variety is not bad

They have other Thai food too, my wife said it was good

On all 5 ocassions, I could notice 2-3 foreigners, always same faces, breakfasting there.
On my second visit, they were also sitting there, outside, I thought it could be good and a value. Those guys may well be members of this Board.

Now I remember. Memorized the location into my Thai Garmin GPS, never bothered to remember the name.
Yes, that was it, thanks.

La Baguette has been there for years. They have another shop in Cha-Am.
Their produce is very good and they have a wide variety. I always call in when passing depending upon parking!
I can recommend their sausage rolls.
