I don't think it was a question of it not being successful. I believe it was one of the most successful foreign food restaurants in Hua Hin. I think the guy who opened the place (for his family) just decided he didn't need the hassle and they didn't need the money any longer so he is retiring. It's possible that if it does not sell that the family may decide to reopen at some point but I don't know if it would be the same without the American who started it being involved.

It would probably be a good investment for someone who knows how to keep the menu and quality going.

I wasn't suggesting it wasn't successful - had some enjoyable meals there. However, even the successful restaurants have to be affected by the saturation effect - too many restaurants, not enough punters and a long low season. They must surely wonder why they bother.

Wasn't it for sale for a while?

I am also surprised to learn of Terrace 90 closing. I've never eaten there but it was obviously a favorite among many. As BigBoy has said though, too many venues and not enough customers. Also, lower exchange rates and an every increasing cost of living will surely have resulted in some expats eating out less often, or opting for cheaper options.

Bigboy, T 90 has two signs. Closed for Low Season and for rent. Both signs accurate. Reopen in High Season and available for rent. T90 owns the land and building.

In that case, a wise business decision that I applaud  . It can't be easy trying to compete with everybody else for a low season slice of the pie.

Drop me a PM when you're due to re-open, and I'll make sure you are re-instated on the map.

hhfarang wrote:As a rib lover I think I tried all of them that were there up until the latter part of last year. While there were many that were good only two came close to American style as mentioned above. Terrace 90 had the best in that department. The second best was the "Maxican" place just off Soi 94. The owner/chef learned at T90 as he used to be a cook there. It's next door to Korat Kitchen and admittedly it's not a pleasant place to eat as it's a house turned restaurant and you sit in the carport with the owner's many dogs. I always got the ribs to go... they're better eaten at home anyway... at home you can eat them in your underwear and not worry about the mess. :D

Now I'm in barbecue heaven... with good ribs and pulled pork on nearly every street corner!
thanks for the info. i always got laugh with the Maxican spelling. i will give this place a try.

Thanks everyone for al of the information. We went there last night. And you all are very correct. There are many differences. But not all bad..... The taste, sauce flavor was different like a rub but was pretty good....I liked.... Now I would be very interested when T90 reopens..... Using Tony Roma's as a 10 I would give the Happy Pig a 6.5 - 7. But that is Good....Nice little front yard of home. Momma was very nice, moved back from Finland to Thailand and Daughter can speak Fin, Thai & English.... They even have a couple of things on the menu from Lapland.....
Thanks again for all the information........sure Appreciate. Please someone let me know when T90 reopens.... :)

I have not been for awhile, but if you are in the north end of town, Kor Sor Resort in Bor Fai used to do a good Pork Rib. Reasonable prices and a nice spot, except for the stairs up to the restaurant.

Once Tony Roma's became well known where I lived, my minority opinion was for Tony roma's to be a 10, the scale must go to 20.

I ate at Tony Roma's 1 time. I asked for the sauce on the side. When the ribs came out it looked liked a slab of BOILED pork ribs. They didn't taste good at all. A sauce should be there to compliment the meat not cover up the blandness of boiled meat. I agree Homer the scale must go higher if Tony's is a 10. Ribs need to be slow cooked on a BBQ with a dry rub not boiled and smothered in sauce so you can't even taste the meat.
