Spotted this notice in a local minimart a couple of days ago, it basically says "this is a government notice that no more than three bottles per person are allowed to be sold".

Anyone else seen this in action yet?

It says that the decision is the shop's own and they due this because the government has raised the alcohol taxation. I don't know why this is connected but it doesn't seem to be anything to do with any law.

Restaurant fined nearly half a million Baht for showing alcohol photos in menus

The Criminal Court for the first time in Thai history fined a restaurant manager and another individual for nearly half a million Baht over showing images alcoholic drinks in restaurant’s menus.

According to ASTV Manager Online, an individual with the facebook username ‘Ozawa Curry’, a managing director of KACHA*KACHA Restaurant at ASIATIQUE, an open-air mall in Bangkok, posted on his facebook profile that Bangkok’s Criminal Court on 24 March 2015 ruled to demand 460,000 Baht (14,189 USD) fine in total from him and another individual for violating the 2008 Alcoholic Beverage Control Act.

The court ruled to fine the two for 1,000 baht a day from 30 July 2014 to 6 March 2015 for breaking the 2008 Alcoholic Beverage Control Act with an additional fine of 10,000 Baht each.

The two defendants, however, are in the process of submitting a request to appeal the ruling.

The court said that the two defendants violated Article 32 and Article 43 of the 2008 Alcoholic Beverage Control Act.

In brief, Article 32 of the 2008 Alcoholic Beverage Control Act states that no person shall advertise or display, directly or indirectly, names or trademarks of alcoholic beverages in a manner that showing properties thereof or inducing other persons to drink while Article 43 lays out a year of imprisonment or no more than 500,000 Baht (about 15,000 USD) fine or both for persons who violate Article 32.

According to the restaurant managing director, four to five police officers came to inspect the restaurant on 30 December 2014, demanding the see the license to sell alcoholic beverages and taking pictures of the restaurant’s menus.

Seven months after the inspection, the police issued an order to summon the restaurant staffs and told them that they have to pay 50,000 Baht (about 1,540 USD) fine to the Alcohol Control Committee and submitted the casefile of the charges to the prosecutor office.

Mrs buksi went to HH yesterday to get some stock for her restaurant. In Macro they're now asking for a company registration/restaurant liqour license before selling large quantities of alcohol (over a case).

I buy from a local supplier; any quantity, any time of day and cheaper than Makro...

And yet I walked out of my local shop at 8am yesterday with 3 bottles of beer and strolled right by a policeman. No problem.
Maybe some business owners are getting upset with Macro as Joe Public is able to walk in there and buy at wholesale prices? Just a thought.

The local suppliers generally only stock Thai beer - if you want some of the imported good stuff (San Mig, Beer Lao etc) you've got no choice but to use Makro and suffer their stupid regulations.

Additionally 3 bottles is fine, they're getting a hard on over large quantities (as the sign in the OP says).

True. I typically just get cases of Leo and Chang - no one buys Singha any more since they downsized the large bottle to 500 ml from 630 ml. I also get Heineken and Carlsberg no problems. Nearest Makro to me is 50 km away in Rayong.

Ban of alcohol in 300m-radius of educational institutions proposed
A committee chaired by Public Health Minister Rajata Rajatanavin is pushing for a ban on the sale of alcohol in a 300-metre radius of vocational and higher-educational institutions.
The proposed ban will not apply to hotels and approved entertainment zones like Patpong and Royal City Avenue.

"We will propose the ban to the National Alcohol Beverage Policy Committee on July 3," Rajata said Thursday in his capacity as chair of the Alcohol Control Committee.

He said if the policy committee, chaired by a deputy prime minister, approved the proposal, then it would be put before Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha for a final okay.

"Once endorsed by the premier, the ban will be announced in the Royal Gazette and go into effect 30 days later," he said.

Rajata said that once the ban is in effect, violators will be punished with a jail term of up to six months and/or a maximum fine of Bt10,000.

It's just as well that they didn't include places of worship in that list, which might have made more sense!

That'll be next, soon you'll only be able to get a tinny out in the boonies at a wee shed run by pineapple farmers!

A 300 metre radius taken from the school in the centre of town 'Tedsaban Ban Hua Hin School', would take out all the bars in the Bintabhat area.
