Hua Hin restaurant reccommendations

Post by Tunafish »

In recent times I have posted some scathing comments about restaurants that given bad service, so I think it fair to praise those who continuously do a good job !

The Dacha Cafe, Soi 94. Konstantine the proprieter is a culinary genius and whatever you choose from the menu will be excellent. Food theme is Russian / Italian. His pizza is probably the best in town, and the beef stroganov,,,wow!

Mekong cafe, next to Market village. Vietnamese / Thai fusion food, many excellent dishes, very good tasting and unusual combinations. The massaman beef curry is the best I have tasted

The Indian restaurant, Soi 80. Excellent food, especially the fish, reasonably priced and friendly service.

Sea Breeze, opposite the piers. Excellent tapas and great sangria. Sit in the garden at the rear of the restaurant, lovely ambiance.

Cool Relax, opposite All in HuaHin, great breakfast!

Vana Varin resort, old Pranbury Rd. Nice lakeside restaurant with beautiful views, so recommended for lunch, as evenings you may not see so much. Nice Thai cuisine, reasonable prices, but service a bit slow.

Coffee Coffee, Pala'U Rd, near La Vallee. Home made cakes and the best coffee in town

ENJOY

The only two on your list that I have been to are Dacha and the Soi 80 Indian.

Totally agree with you comments on Soi 80 Indain. First time I went there I unfortunately was let down by a Vindaloo with no kick to it, but otherwise the food was all excellent. Since then they seem to have sorted out the spiciness (though still not as mouth-burning as one might expect) and for me it's the best Indian in town.

Dacha; went there once. The Pizza was good, but I wouldn't say even close to the best in town - though Pizza preference is a very personal thing. My girlfriend's Ceasar salad, and the starter that we shared, were fantastic, though. And the guy that runs the place seems a thoroughly nice guy.

That should be Cool Breeze, not Sea Breeze. I agree though, excellent tapas and other appetizer-sized bowls to mix and match for a meal. I go there at least once a week. If you get there before 7 PM, it's order 3, pay for 2 of the bowls. Other specials too. Great service from the ladies and the owner Vaughan is a really great guy.

Thoroughly agree with you, Konstantine, the guy who runs the restaurant is a very nice guy, and very often after a meal he will offer you one of his vodka creations, which are potent but delightful!

One I can certainly disagree with is Mekong Cafe, unless they have considerably upped their standards.

There are 2 considerations, the location/ambiance and the food. I love to eatat the restaurants on the piers, particularlyif iI can get a table at the far end. I enjoy the view of the city, the sea, the boats on the water and the breeze. The food is OK, but not my primary concern.

With so many to choose from and so many previous threads on them I thought i would mention a few places I have discovered recently out of town.

At the bottom of the hill heading up to Hin Lek Fai viewpoint soi 88 side, there is a fairly new place doing Indian food Shiva Ayurveda. Very good and great setting for an evening meal. Not sure about the wine selection as we take our own and not sure if we pay corkage but probably. They have a website.

Hin Lek Fai restaurant. Good Italian and fusion food, great ambience, great hosts, decent wine selection. Coming up the Palau road go past the Balloon park and turn right at the next 7/11. Well signposted.

Coming up soi 88 Turn left before the law courts as if you were cutting through to soi 94 and you will find a charming little Vietnamese place. Well signposted. Owned by one of the professors from the university and staffed by her students. Don't sell wine so take your own.

As a lover of food and new places to try we've been out an about over the weekend.
No1) Caga on Soi 55, just up the road from heavens kitchen, lovely relaxed setting, happy hour with great cocktails and very good food, we had the burgers and they were lovely especially the pork, big slab of pork too!
No2) 31Burger which is just around the corner (see picture for map) great design, built in a sea container, funky place with again great burgers! Lovely place for a spot of lunch!

Cool Breeze is one of my favorites in that area of town. Great Mediteranean style food; best Greek Salad I've found in Hua Hin.
