Browsing Hua Hin forum whilst eating my Thai wife's dinner (no disrespect to her cooking - this topic happened to be next on the forum list), and came a ccrsoo HHtel's posting about plate- size yorkshire puddings which can 2nd as Taliban hats!

Oh yes Richard - same same here. Yorkshire pudds were originally served as starters to fill you up and save on the main meal meat. Now they have evolved into containers for almost any other meal, and I would hazard a guess that one of the first places to do the meal in a pudd deal was a pub in Skidby - which will mean nowt to anyone else! (apart from HHT.)
But let's not forget that any left over cold Yorkshire pudd can be eaten cold the next day with Golden Syrup. Only Tate and Lyles will do of course.

The Palm Bistro is a great dinner, do this one once a month and its always top notch.
Nongs sounds interesting, will drop by and see what the story is there,,, love a big, crispy yorkshire pud!

What is it that people find so appealing about a Sunday roast? As a kid I used to dread Sunday roasts because I found them to be the most boring and most predictable meal imaginable. I mean, roast potatoes or mash, lovely. Yorkshire pudding, lovely. Piles of boiled veg, yuck. Slices of roast beef or lamb, yuck.

Why not have grilled lamb or mutton chops, or perhaps a nice steak rather slices of roast meat. And, let's rather save those veggies for a stew so that you don't really have to taste them. :idea: :laugh: Oh, and no sprouts please, because their taste has an uncanny ability to survive no matter what you do to them. :shock:

Sometimes it's just nice to have a bit of simple, boring food.

It's taken me three years of living here to get the 'itch' for a roast - although I have had two in that time with no real craving for one (the first because a friend invited me, and the second because my girlfriend wanted to experience a traditional Christmas dinner). Once that itch has been scratched, I dare sy my taste buds will have been rested up well enough for another year or two :)

I wish. I haven't managed to find mutton chops ever since I left SA 20 years ago. Lamb chops yes, but no mutton chops. :( :laugh:

When I was living in the UK, it would be a traditional Sunday roast virtually every week, bar the few times in the summer when the weather was hot enough for a BBQ (3-4 times a year then). We would normally rotate between beef, lamb, pork and chicken, although my favourite would be roast leg of lamb, accompanied with boiled new potatoes, young carrots, fresh peas from the pod, lashings of gravy made with the meat juices and definitely home made mint sauce and in our home, it was usually Yorkshire puddings with any roast meat, not just with beef. Here I cook a roast about once every 2-3 months.

Actually, there are of course roast dinners and roast dinners. I was part of that class and generation brought up on egg and chips, fish fingers, etc. during the week and a Sunday roast. Unfortunately, my mother, God bless 'er, was not the most gifted cook you could have asked for in a mother. Overcooked beef and overboiled vegetables. Yum...

However, once I was old enough to realise that a nice pink colour and even a bit of red-tinged juice oozing from your joint was not an omen of impending doom and a painful death, that vegetables could be boiled for just a couple of minutes, leaving them nice and crispy, that cauliflower didn't have to be smothered in powdered bread sauce, that pepper was a pleasing spice and not sneezing powder, that Dijon mustard helped to bring out the flavour of the meat (unlike Coleman's English, which was clearly a byproduct of WW2 biological warfare experiments) and that Bisto could be enhanced by the juice from a perfectly cooked joint, I came to appreciate one of the greatest pleasures in life, and one in which I am not ashamed to admit I frequently indulge - mastur a Sunday roast! I had a perfect leg of lamb the other day, cooked in my 999 baht turbo oven (thanks Nereus!) and am still enjoying it cold with salad and in sandwiches. Life is most definitely not a bitch.

The Best sunday roast i've had is Nit's restaurant in soi 94 (from the main road, over railway line - its 300m on the right, just before the sharp right hand turn)...

As i recall Lamb was 260b, pork / beef 240b and chicken 220b .....

couldn't fault the place....

Try the 99bt restaurant between 94 and 88. Only pork or chicken with roast, mash 3 veg and a Yorkshire. At 99bt it is outstanding value and the quality is excellent

the sunday roast buffet at sunset boulevard is fantastic. great value so much food never runs out well worth going to
