@tletic: Better than your average car park restaurant

Post by J.J.B. »

On the face of it, setting-up a restaurant in the car park of the new @tletic gym on Soi 88 might not seem that glamorous but Nok & Num have done exactly that and the results are very good. Nok told me that they opened about a month ago and I understood that previously they had a place with more passing trade (as if Soi 88 were a quiet street!) but high rents had forced them out.

They are currently offering a European menu with a strong leaning to Italy (Insalata di Cesare, Calamari fritti e molto piatti di pasta) along with New Zealand mussels dishes for the more adventurous. What struck me was that all the dishes are prepared from scratch and with fresh ingredients. That may be a pre-requisite for a restaurant, you might say, but it is surprising how many restaurants the world over rely on frozen sauces or stocks to flavour their food during cooking. Yesterday we tried their spaghetti with crispy bacon, chilli, garlic, cheese and sweet basil leaves at just 120 THB and it was certainly more spicy than anything any Italian would eat. I had the pork chop with onion thyme sauce and it was a handsome size, with very little fat, that came with a modest number of fries and a small salad for 160 THB. There are also plenty of steak dishes on offer and their fish and chips is apparently (according to a reliable expat British friend) among the best in HH. They are looking to expand into Thai food later in the year but for now I would certainly recommend giving them a try for some excellent and very affordable European food.

Sadly, the concrete car park isn't the same draw as their food but the freshly made crêpes Suzette is a perfect dessert and along with their 'Hua Hin Cocktail', one of their house specialties. The bar is well-stocked and I even spotted a bottle of Johnnie Walker Green Label (15 year old) on the shelf but doubt there is much call for it to be taken down too often. Well worth a visit though, if only to phone your order ahead and collect it on the way home, and the two hosts could not be more welcoming.

Great Restaurant. Especially the Fish & Chips. (I just boycott those racists of the @letic gym because of their double pricing)

I will give the restaurant a try but same as you, I don´t like the pricing in @letic so I´m looking for another more resonable gym, do you know any?

Is this restaurant in the same building as @letic gym on Soi 88?

I eat dinner at @teltic today and the first impression was nice menu and resonable price, till they serve the food..
Very small portions, I had to order one more dish and then it was not nice price anymore.
But ok food, I order the spaghetti with crispy bacon, chilli, garlic, cheese and sweet basil leaves (120 baht * 2)
Good taste but very spicy for be pasta, made for Thailand.
I told the lady that i think was the owner that maybe they should have choises on the menu, S, M, L. There is one resturant in 94 between 7/11 and Sakura Sushi that have this choise and for me that´s perfekt. My gf want S and I want L.
Strange coz normally woman always wants the big one..

Letic Cafe & Restaurant

Post by bapak »

My wife and I have been dining at Letic Cafe & Restaurant at least once a week over the past few months. And never had a "bad" meal.

It run by a husband and wife team, Nok and Num. The husband was previously a chef at a known hotel. Menu items are inexpensive.

The restaurant is located at Letic on Soi 88, at the end closest to Big Kiang.

:agree: Have eaten there several times. Food excellent, low prices, great service from the very nice owners. What else could you want.

I'm intrigued, you say racist and double pricing! How so and who pays more?

FYI, the restaurant is not owned by nor part of the gym; Nok and Num just rent the space in the lot from them.

About the portions comment. Large restaurant portions are a part of what made and keep me fat. My Father drilled into my head "never to waste food" from the time I was born until I left the house as a young adult. I was made to sit at the table until I finished everything on my plate that was filled to overflowing by my Mother so it is so ingrained into my mind and being so deeply that you can put a whole cow on the table and I will finish it whether I am hungry or not!
... so ...

Yes, the portions are not the largest in town, but personally, I'd rather have the rock bottom prices and smaller portions. That way, I can either get a small meal very cheaply if I'm not too hungry, or can try an appetizer and dessert along with a main (or even two mains) still at a reasonable price if I am very hungry and don't always have to be wheeled away in a cart because I've eaten so much I can barely breathe. :D :D
