You are all talking about where it is expencive to go, let us have a new topic on where to get the real stuff.
Reaturants with good value for money where are they and what is their speciality.?
dinner time where to go ??
If you want Issan food theres a place called 'sadam' (written in thai) across the railway near the 7-11 opposite the turning to Pala-U, also try Sara Janes down Neabkehardt road.
For seafood I've always rated Chao Ley at the end of Thanon Dechanuchit.
Good value Thai food can be found at any of the restaurants along Neabkehardt or along Petchkasem road on the way (1.5km out of town) to Cha-am.
'Moo yang Gowlee' or 'Moo gatar' Korean style BBQ is good at the little place next to the Shell garage.
For cheap farang feeds try Mr Burger opposite Hin Nam Sai Suay, Pintara on the corner of the little soi where the Observer office is, or Rahn lek lek on the railway road about 500m past the station on the way to the Grand.
And for the hangover you can't beat Burger King!

Hilton Rooftop Restaurant
I can only say the food there is excellent and of a standard equal to any restaurant of its kind. I was about 4500 baht a skull but we ate high on the hog and in European terms it was excellent quality and fair value. By local standards it was of course, expensive. But as a "last night treat" it was tops. The atmosphere is naturally reserved as you might expect but if you have a cultured palate, give it a go.
Planning to be there at New Year again !
