Are there any good vegetarian restaurants in HH?

Restaurants, food, beverage, hawkers, and local markets and suppliers. This is the place for discussion on Hua Hin's culinary options.

Prob correct, but if it is of any help, Thais use the word "Kin Jeh" for vegeterian eating. So if there are no answers here, you can try asking the Thais once you've arrived. There is one that I know, though. It's near the Chatchai Market, in the intersection between the two night market roads. If you coming from Petchkasem, go to the first intersection and turn to left, it's the second of the two small restaurants there. I think it closes fairly early.

In the words of Ricky Gervais: if we were not meant to eat animals then why are they all made out of meat?

It's a quandry and a half!

Haha, I've recently gone vege after looking after a friends place, which included their cows, sheep and chickens. Found that they are all great animals with a real presence about them. Then went to a family members for dinner where I was proudly served up the family pet cow. I've not eaten meat since :D

I went to a vegetarian restaurant once but when I discovered that vegetarians were not actually on the menu I legged it to the local steak house!

Hi Hails,

Thai vegetarian or other food? How strict are you (ie eat fish? dairy? eggs?) There aren't any solely veggie restaurants here as far as I'm aware, but you can get something to eat in most restaurants. Indian & Italian are always good bets, but most Thai restaurants are pretty good too. You can get things like tom yam hed instead of tom yam koong (mushrooms instead of shrimp), vegetable curries etc.

One place worth checking out is the Admirals Pub near the Post Office. They will actually do you any Thai dish on their menu substituting tofu or soya meat for the actual meat. Not cheap, esp as Thai food goes (ie not 20 baht!), but really tasty.

I know this as I was veggie for 10 years, but, sadly, gave in to the lure of the bacon sarnie & steaks again earlier this year. There are a few restaurants that don't do anything veggie, but I'd say that's less than 10% & if you eat seafood (I didn't), you can eat anywhere.

Hope that's some use.

Vegie restuarants

Post by Perente »

Hi hails,

While they are happy to serve us meat lovers, several of the restuarants at the back of the temple have a vegie section on their menu. Tasty food at a reasonable price.

Cheers :thumb:

Thanks for that guys :)

Sounds like I'll have plenty to choose from. Dawn red meat is definately off the menu, but eggs etc are fine, and I'll eat chicken/fish/seafood if I have to, unless theres another option. I don't plan on cooking too much over there so I'll definately try out these places!

:)
