Actually, have to say the best kebab(s) I've had have been in Tavşanlı - which is actually in Turkey (south of Istanbul) Foodie, so yes - I enjoy the dish there. The OP however is regarding a completely different thing.......

BaaBaa,

What is Worra bell, I could not find any referance to its meaning. I make a truthful comment and you throw some sorry Weiners and Kraft Cheese slice reply back. Weiners came from Germany and Kraft cheese is what you associate with American food.
Although processed cheese was first invented in 1911 by Walter Gerber of Thun, Switzerland, it was James L. Kraft who first applied for an American patent for his method in 1916.[2][3] Kraft Foods also created the first commercially available sliced processed cheese, which was introduced in 1950. This form of sliced cheese and its derivatives have become commonplace in the United States, most notably used for cheeseburgers and grilled cheese sandwiches. The Laughing Cow is an example of European processed cheese.

Several times I've seen you suggest that Brits wouldn't know what "proper" foreign foods are like.

Are you aware of how multicultural Britain is? Or do you think we wipe immigrants memory upon entry and make them live on Beans on Toast and Roast dinners?

For your information just up the road from me is "Curry Mile" in Rusholme, The name is earned from the large number of restaurants, take-aways and kebab houses specialising in the cuisines of South Asia and the Middle East, thought to be the largest concentration of South Asian restaurants outside the Indian subcontinent.

So yeah, "us Brits" know what a Kebab is.

That must have been the best part of 25 years ago and It kind of changed my views on kebabs, but still not so easy to find. Always go for kofte lamb or chicken now. Had one Friday night and very good it was too!
If you go to just about any city in Germany you can find either Turkish Kebabs or Greek Gyros and it's always made of layered lamb or chicken and is usually served on handmade pita bread which is about an inch thick and a choice of salad instead of just shredded cabbage. To be honest the UK is the only place I've come across that processed kebab meat, even here in Luxembourg there are quite a few Kebab shops run by Iraqi's and they're pretty good with real meat as well.
I actually prefer a Duram Kebab which is the same as a doner but rolled into a sort of parcel in a type of bread pancake instead of served open in pitta as it's a bit more controllable.

Please do not change what I say, Yes my responce to the word "Proper" you still dont get it. America is multi cultural and has what I think is great Chinese food many Chinese would think it is not like the food they grew up on. So I would not use the word Proper. For me it might be the best but not F_N Proper. I hope that makes what I said clearer. When other cultures bring their food to other countries most of the time it gets change to fit the likings of that country. I like and think N.Y Pizza is the best, but to say it is proper is wrong.

I think you are confusing the word proper with traditional.

Besides, Pizza, Currys and Kebabs are hardly rocket science.

In England it's traditional to have Kebabs after a proper piss-up.

I agree

And besides, who is to say a certain dish cannot be improved/refined by a person/people of a different culture. Pizza Hut is a perfect example. :duck:

The best Indian curries I've had were in Malaysia and the UK. Some of the best Thai food I've had was in Aberdeen, and the best fish and chips is found in South Africa. :thumb:

As for processed cheese........................how low can you go. I wouldn't even consider it to be a form of food. Just to set the record straight.......A PROPER cheese burger is made using char grilled ground steak, topped with "REAL" cheese, NOT processed cheese.

If I say it correctly Kebab is Turkish, Shoarma is Egyptian and Gyros is Greek.
Back in the Netherlands we have enough offer from all 3. Lots of Turkish bakeries that sell Kebab, Greek restaurants that are offering Gyros and Egyptian restaurants, that are usually the only dining option when you have a late night serving Shoarma.
There are some differences between the 3 but not a lot.

For me lamb gives the best taste, but to make supplying himself easier, the OP can choose for beef, what is not a bad alternative, although I noticed a selection of lamb meat in Makro.
If the OP is thinking of this business-wise I would also leave a chicken option in as Thai customers are not always great beef (or lamb) lovers.

I've only ever eaten kebabs made with lamb so I can't really comment. I did have a chicken on at the Grand Market, but I wouldn't really call that a kebab.

Yes, if the OP is considering this as a business opportunity, they should definitely have a chicken option if they are hoping to get Thai customers. Other than my wife, I've never met any Thai that eats lamb although if the truth be known, 99% of them have never tried it. Some say sheep are too cute to eat, while others say the meat stinks. Saying that, there are plenty of westerners who don't eat lamb either. I wonder if veal would work with kebabs?

But on the topic of Turkish food (and sorry for the little hijack) can you buy Yufka in Thailand? And I mean the HUGE Yufka sheets for making Su Böreği. Currently I have to make it myself, which is not really difficult, but lots of work.
