Thai (Korean) BBQ
Thai (Korean) BBQ
I have been told there is a Thai BBQ in Hua Hin. It was described as a combination of soup/meat/fish cooked on a firepot in centre of table. Restaurant described as being an open sided venue perhaps over the railway line. Can anyone provide further info please

Up Chomsin Rd and over the railway crossing. past the supermarket immediately on your left and then follow the road to the right ( this about 200 mtrs past supermarket). Continue around the next bend ( about 400 mtrs) and the BBQ is on your right some 100mtrs

I think these maybe called Jim Jum? In Thai means sauce and Jum means, to dip. Jim Jum is served in a claypot over a small barbeque..there are places all over Thailand that do these. Normally quite inexpensive too
Re: Thai BBQ
The Thai BBQ buffet before the gas station heading south used to be a set price all you can eat, but if your eye's are bigger than your belly they will charge you extra if you leave any food on your table.
My mrs loves these places and as a consolation we even have an electric indoor BBQ with steam boat back here in the UK so when it's freezing cold she can still enjoy in a slightly different way.

Petchakasam just before soi 51 coming south
All you can eat for 99Bht
Fish, sea food, meat, veg, fruit, ice cream. Oh and make your own Isaan dishes (Songtam etc)
Don't overload your plate as charged for wastage
Need a Thai with you to assist and guide you and cook
Do your own booze if you want and just pay for ice and softs. Smoking not allowed except side tables on the left as you go in
Big screen TV invariably playing top UK games for the Thai fanatics

They are called moo kra ta. You can find them everywhere in Thailand from 89 baht up.

Re: Thai BBQ
There is a newish BBQ a little before Soi 102. It is a little hard to see from Petchkasem, Has live music and a big arae of food. I am not big on these BBQ as they are cheap and you get the quality you pay for. There is also one on Petchkasem and 47/1.
Re: Thai BBQ
A real Thai BBQ is a couple of catfish with sticks up their butts being charred over a local clay BBQ that you can probably buy for 100 baht.
Before we left California I bought my wife a $100 Japanese Hibachi that seemed to be just the right size for catfish and perhaps the occasional piece of beef if I got lucky.
Not only has she never used the thing in six years, but when the relatives come down south to visit they bring their own damned clay barbecues!

I've never actually used one of these places and although I would like to try, something inside just keeps sayingFoodie wrote:I am not big on these BBQ as they are cheap and you get the quality you pay for.
I mean I know that certain things can be pretty cheap in LOS, but for less than bht. 100 and all you can eat, what quality are you going to get? I guess it's a matter of you pays your money and you takes your choice, maybe next time over I'll give it a whirl

Re: Thai BBQ
Of course you get what you pay for - the idea that Thailand is full of bargains is nonsense unless you're a tourist comparing prices with Covent Garden.
What is true is that some simple Thai dishes from food stalls are as cheap to buy as it would be to cook at home. That is mainly because you get a tiny portion that wouldn't fill a sparrow.
We have the doings for moo kra ta at home and enjoy it occasionally. The advantage to this is that, as stated above, you get what you pay for, so if you want better cuts of meat, it's 'up to you'. And you don't slowly roast to death round a table with burning coals plonked two feet away! grill the meat on top, boil the veg in the 'moat'.
Ours sits on a traditional clay pot. Cheap, fun, delicious and a nice change.

That's exactly the reason I would never go to one of these "cook it yourself" restaurants. And you don't slowly roast to death round a table with burning coals plonked two feet away!
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
Re: Thai BBQ
They're actually Korean BBQs anyway, Thai style is as TIGR said, that or open coles with a shaved Rat in a clamp 1 inch from the charcoal.
