Will be staying in BK for a couple of nights before Hua Hin and we have been recommended to go to Silom Village. Has anyone eaten there? is it ok? is it one restaurant or a group? will I need to book? I guess it will be touristy but thats what I am. Any comments appreciated.

There are two (2) Silom Villages that I know of. One on Silom, going away from Rama 4 the restaurant is on the right some way past where the sky train turns left, best to get a cab. The other between Sukhumvit 23 and 31. The Silom one is the most popular. Thai restaurants catering for the tourist, the one in Silom is quite large, with handicraft shops and Thai dancing. If friends are visiting from overseas we often take them to the Silom outlet, they always seem to enjoy themselves. IMHO food is quite reasonable for tourist prices and good quality. They have some young girls in Traditional costume who walk around inviting customers to have a group photo taken with them.

A fun evening for new visitors.

Used to take tourists there years ago. It has two different sections, one which is indoors and has a cultural show. I think they had a set meal along with the show there. Food ok, show is nothing special, but if you've never seen Thai dances it's ok as well.
Outdoors they have menu and no show. Some of my relatives and friends liked the food there. It's not inexpensive but not too expensive either. The athmosphere used to be nice there, so I think it's worth visiting. They have another Silom Village on Sukhumvit Soi 23, which I thought wasn't as good as the one on Silom.

thanks for the replies sounds ideal for a first night in BK. It was a toss up between the Silom village and Cabbages and Condoms. Silom Village on the way out and Cabbages on the way home. Sounds good.

Hi cat

Did Cabbages and Condoms last January, the food was OK, nothing special, but considering that, I think the prices are expensive.... Some of the displays are a hoot, and the thought behind the place is good.

Visited Cabbages and Condoms with the wife for the first time last month.

The decor of this open air restaurant is well excellent.
I though it was reasonably priced with a large choice of Thai dishes.

Dinner for 2 with drinks for less than a B1000 in a mock tropical rain forest off Sukhumvit Road can't be bad.

Plus the free "thung yangs" with your bill.

I'd recommend Seafood Market for the experience. It's not cheap but the sheer size of the restaurant and the fresh fish/seafood available is worth it. It's near the Emporium shopping Mall.

My impression is that Lev et al go to great lengths to prevent multiple posts, to keep info relevant. Newbies (incl myself), read older posts for information. The whole idea of a 'forum' is to post information which would be useful to others .... not just the 'poster'.

Judging by your posts Norseman I seem to have offended you at some stage ... did I forget your Xmas card ?

dont worry he does it with everyone at some stage. but they do say what comes around goes around
i saw a program a few weeks back about a seafood market on sukumvit
it was more like a supermarket where you buy the fish veg and anything else you want go to check out and then tell them how you want it cooked. is this the place?
suan lum (if thats spelt right ) is another good relaxed night out in bangkok
many kinds of food beers shops and a massive live music stage
and i agree a forum is for everyone not just the over opinionated

I really am sorry if you interpret my postings and replies the way you say.
You have never offended me!!
I know my english is not good, and proficiency in writing even worse due to the fact that I'm not english.
Maybe I misunderstand something because of the language, but I have indeed no intentions to hurt anybody. If I do, I apologise.
(And I don't forget I promised you a beer in an earlier posting)!

That restaurant is called Seafood Palace and is near the Asoke BTS station on the oppisite side of Sukhumvit to Soi Cowboy.

Well recommended but a little pricey of you are on a budget. You pay twice there, once when you select you food which is done outside and then again at the end of the meal - second payment is for cooking and and drinks.

I wasn't aware C&C had opened a place in Bangkok. Here's the link for the original property here in Pattaya. Well worth a visit when over on this side of the pond. Not cheap though, both rooms and menu. It's a great place to escape to for a weekend, even for local residents. Pete
