Re: Indian spices
I would have suggested Makro, especially the new HH one, as I can get 90% of what I need to whip up a decent curry paste in there.

A friend with an Indian restaurant says you can get pretty much everything here, anything you can find look in Bangkok.

Re: Indian spices
Mr.VS cooks up a lot of Indian dishes and can get most of what he wants at our local Makro in Nakhon Pathom, but it's quite a bit larger than the one in Hua Hin. You could also try the wet market in the centre of Hua Hin - we used to buy a lot of the basics from there.
However, a couple of times a year we venture into Bangkok and top up on other stuff from a shop along Sukhumvit Road. It's between the Terminal 21 shopping place (same side) and Asoke junction. If you wander along the road (not far from the BTS lift) you'll see a small alley with a Chinese-style spirit house. Go down the alley and you'll find yourself in a rather smelly, small wet market. The sort of place you could buy a mugwy! At the far side is a supermarket, you can't really miss it as it kind of glows in the semi-darkness. They have every ingredient you could possibly want to make Indian food, and a huge selection of pickles.
Good luck,
VS

Re: Indian spices
Last time I was in town there was a stall selling Indian spices in the little night street market, the one round the side of City Beach. Otherwise Macro on Soi 4.

I'm amazed that you say Makro is limited in it's supplies. they have a great range of Indian spices. Maybe a bit short on the choice of pickles but they have everything else you would need to create a decent curry.

Re: Indian spices
Another alternative is to go to an Indian restaurant for a meal and at the end ask where they buy their spices.

Re: Indian spices
This thread is almost 6 years old - I can’t remember what Marko stocked back then but these days they have all the spices you need for an authentic Indian curry

I don't know if this is a good example of the reason to lock old threads, or the exact opposite!

IMHO, some old threads are worth reopening as things do change.

Re: Indian spices
I have to agree with the comments about Makro, in that they now have ample spices to choose from. The only downside is that sometimes the packets are a bit large.

Re: Indian spices
Tend to agree with Takiap on the size of the packets from Makro. But that is their business model, and it does keep the prices at a reasonable level.
As for me, being in Bangkok helps. I just go to Pahurat (Little India, right next to Chiantown) where you will be in Indian spice heaven. Treat yourself to a decent indian meal while there.
