Is DSL or similar available in Hua Hin to the general public.....I.E., not just at the hotels? Thanks. Pete

DSL - worth the money?

Post by dahobbit »

Anyone have this and have opinions on its value.

I haven't invested in DSL because the cafes that have it are still a lot slower than the cable modem service I use in US. I think the problem is that there are a lot of bottlenecks between the US and Europe, where most of the serves are, and Thailand.

Getting tired of 56K dialup, though.

ADSL Hua Hin

I havent used it domestically but have tried in a few hotels and companies around town. The service varies with time of day but never runs at its maximum capacity, a 256Kb connection runs at around 180 - 220K. Go here to test your connection speed.

The reason that most internet cafes are still slow is that they are sharing their high speed link over serveral computers. It would only need five machines on a 256 line to slow the connection down to modem speed so unless the place is empty it will be slow.

I would also like it at home but am not willing to pay more than my rent every month for the privilege! :guns:
