Mobile phone blockers in Hua Hin?

Post by albaker »

Is there anywhere in Hua Hin to buy a mobile phone blocker ?
Will be in Bangkok for a couple of days and perhaps it would be better to try Pantip Plaza or 4th floor MBK .

I can't answer you, apart from suggesting the computer shops on the top floor of Market Village mall, or maybe Hua Hin Shopping Mall (the old mall opposite the temple in town).

I don't want to seem rude, but I wonder why people need these things? I'm just genuinely curious. If it sounds useful I may buy one! :)

I wasn’t able to find any in Hua Hin but bought two in Pantip Plaza at the ground floor market area. My brother runs a security company specialising in heritage buildings, mainly churches and civic buildings, he uses them to show how most wireless security products can be blocked by such things.

I did try it on the packed commuter train into London, when I was on my way to hand it over to him, with impressive results. They are illegal to use in Europe, of course.

Apologies for my not understanding here.
What are we achieving from this device?.
Are we stopping my phone from reporting and logging my location?
Are we hiding my phone from the network..........?

So just what is it and what does it do, block all mobile phones within a certain distance or just a specific number?

I know the military use blocking devices however these do stop all communications with a specific area.

As I thought to block within a certain radius, maybe useful for schools, libraries etc. Not really something individuals should be allowed to use as it would be extremely useful to criminals.

The link from google pretty much covers it. You can buy small, battery powered ones that have perhaps a 5-10m effective radius for around 2,000 Baht, or larger, mains powered ones that might go up to 25m radius for around 6,000 Baht.

Is there a benefit to the owner actually having one of these items on a day to day basis if they live a normal lifestyle??

I would say that for most people they have a very limited use. Certainly for parents wanting their kids to go to bed and sleep (where for whatever reason the parents are unable to just confiscate phones/tablets etc) they would be useful. This of course would mean the said parents also losing their connectivity and requiring landlines and hard wired computers and any wireless equipment such as headphones or speakers (possibly but I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong).
The problems as I see it is not only the loss of all wireless comms in the house including security equipment but also the potential effect on neighbours equipment too. The nuisance potential is huge as already mentioned in an earlier post with reference to use on a train.
Sorry to be off topic a bit and getting back, is the purchase legal here in Thailand. I see them on Lazada but all coming from China, perhaps this may be an issue.

Oh I wish I had one on a train journey when some guy is speaking so loud or rush hour when men night after night phone their wives about 'what's for dinner'. Sorry a bit mean but you all must have experienced this.

I can definitely see an 'entertainment' factor in having one.

What would people do if not staring at their phones ??? 555

Although you could kill someone, by not allowing an emergency call to get through. Oh well, scrambled eggs and all........just for chuckle.
