The board of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) assigned its subcommittee yesterday to amend a draft of the over-the-top (OTT) regulatory framework that will cover all digital platforms.
The board's resolution represents a significant change of stance after it earlier defined OTT video-on-demand services as part of the broadcast business under a sweeping regulatory framework.
"The board wants to see the OTT regulatory framework cover broadcasting, telecom and digital media," NBTC secretary-general Takorn Tantasith said.
OTT includes digital applications or services that operate on internet networks such as mobile VoIP apps, mobile instant messaging, online video and TV, and online music, he added.

I think the junta can get away with bullying a relatively few people, especially in the political sphere. But it may be a different story when screwing with the daily lives of the masses. For example the pick-up passenger fiasco. They could block Facebook instantly if they wanted to (and they tried 3 years ago), but I think they're wary of the fallout, internationally and especially domestically.

All they are trying to do is protect their pound of flesh by controlling content streaming and avoidance of their telephone network. Other countries do it too. Talk of Big Brother and life control is just silly. Anyone with a decent VPN can probably rest easy, there are usually ways around it.

If they blocked Facebook it would probably reduce some of the road crash carnage that happens on a daily basis.

Have there been any studies in to what would happen if the junta blocked Facebook? Societally, economically, financially, commercially?
