Are you using Betternet? I've been getting similar responses for a while, to which the finger has been repeatedly pointed at my ISP. I've at long last realised it is Betternet at fault - if I close it down, my problems go away. Unfortunately, it's too damned useful to get rid of permanently.

Browse chrome:\\gpu to verify hardware acceleration settings, then explore chrome:\\flags.
Then (one-by-one) disable "WebGL" settings (extension, prototype, WebGL2), always restarting the bowser. If no luck (likely) then in Settings/advanced settings try to
- disable developer extensions, or
- disable hardware acceleration, or
- disable/toggle Javascript

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta ... dggiiccfje
for troublesome sites.

- Follow the browsers for sites/scripts/webmasters principle :) ... Opera Neon is a looker.

Due to the age of my laptop and dying battery I’m considering dispensing with a laptop and buying a new WiFi laser printer and printing from my iPad/iPhone.
Any recommendations?
You will need to get one that features “AirPrint” if you want it to print from an iOS device. Wifi alone is not enough.

Decided to let Windows 10 update itself when I was out shopping :?

Just got back and was presented with the screen below :o

Shut down the PC, disconnected the power and waited for a while.

Booted up again and got the same screen.

Does anyone know what this means please?

Do you really need to ask?

I haven't a clue, but one of my recent updates created a problem with the graphics card - Mr Don fixed it for 200 Baht, so it couldn't have been very much. He said it was a known problem.

Well, I thought somebody may have had the same problem and might be able to tell me how it was dealt with.

Sorry if it was too stupid for the HHF Digital Surgery.

Yes, BB was a bit harsh there. Is the PC actually working OK because the taskbar at the bottom looks fine (the pic is pretty low res and crap, hard to tell). If so then I'd guess it's a horrible wallpaper that the PC has chosen itself after restarting. :D

If not then you could reinstall your graphics software/driver if you know how, that's probably all you need to do.

Hi 404cj, thanks a lot for responding. I've managed to reinstall the graphics card driver after a couple of attempts. First it would only run one of my monitors because Windows Display Settings wasn't responding. Found another driver version and installed that and now have all 3 monitors running :D but.... Windows start button isn't working now - will only respond to right mouse click. Third-party software apps are working though, so I can carry on working tonight. But no Wondows apps working. Looks like I need to get Windows reconfigured/reinstalled tomorrow or!? I'll back up all the important stuff now just in case.
Once again, thanks a million for taking the time to help

I didn't mean to be harsh - it looks very much a graphics card problem to me, and I confirmed the latest Windows update affected one of my machine's graphic cards with an already known about problem. I then tried to re-assure you by saying the fix was cheap.

Very sorry you took it the wrong way.

I made a quite long post this morning that I don't see on the forum, must have buggered it up. Basically you should be able to repair yourself without reinstalling Windows. I googled 'windows start button not working' and found lots of help. Yes back up everything first and don't forget your web browser favourites and email program mailboxes (if you don't use IMAP or a webmail solution).

BT have quite a few suggestions for Win 10 if that's what you're running.

Good luck.

My pc is an old clunker and now and again crashes, I find it easier just to do a clean install, including all drivers for cards mother board , usb and Ethernet and re-install programs like office etc. I keep all my important docs in the cloud including web browser favorites, and mail boxes; it only takes an hour from start to finish, also the old mall pc shops level 2 can do this and replace parts if needed for a few hundred baht .

For about 2 weeks now, my laptop has decided it will re-boot itself about 1 hour into every session. It's more of an inconvenience than a problem i.e. it actually saves everything I'm doing and re-presents it on the screen when the laptop comes on again.

Because it saves everything, I'm assuming it is a planned action, but not something I've encountered before. When it happens, the screen goes black while it saves the session. Then it just restarts.

My first thoughts were overheating, but my machine is barely warm (I've had a overheating laptop before, and know what that feels like). After the re-boot, the machine will work for hours without any problem.

Windows 10 updating? Have a look in the Event Viewer, should give you some indication.

There has been a massive windows update, mine was sorted yesterday.

However, now I cant paste photos from my host gallery into a post. I have been doing this for ages, a simple cut and paste, use the appropriate setting (scenic view) and its done. But now nothing happens when I press the paste button, even without using the scenic view. Only here.

Solution?

There is a far faster and easier way. Do your clean install as described above. Then make a system image. Windows has a built in utility. Aftermarket ones are much easier to use. Next time you decide it's time for a clean install, instead restore from the system image. Start it, then no need to touch the machine until it's finished and ready to use.
