Re: The Digital Surgery

I have today changed my ISP over from CAT (way too expensive) to the new fibre service provided by the Hua Hin cable office who have promised high speeds. My CAT contract doesn't expire until next month so I'm basically treating the next month as a trial with the Cable office fibre.
I'm useless on computers but have tried on my iPad to do my usual Ookla speedtest to a server in London but every time I try to connect to any server outside Thailand the test "fails to initialise". The speedtest results to servers inside Thailand are excellent.
I would be very grateful if somebody could explain in easy to understand language for a complete computer novice why the Ookla tests to servers in the U.K. are failing to initialise and whether there is any way of getting them to work.

Have tried that in your IPad browser? Ookla's website uses Adobe Flash, which is not supported on IPads, by design. You may try their new test site at https://beta.speedtest.net - should work if your browser supports HTML5.

Else, try it with Ookla's Mobile Speed Test from https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/speedte ... d300704847

Thanks for the links which I've tried and I'm sorry to report both tests "failed to initialise" as before.

Could it be that Hua Hin Cable only offers internet service for sites within Thailand? Sounds absurd but stranger things have happened. Or, there is a conflict between CAT and Hua Hin Cable if you have both systems active? I'm just throwing darts. Pete

I can access all my usual UK sites and my first guess if the problem was not due to my lack of computer skills was either a dispute with CAT or something to do with the promised "single gateway".
Hopefully someone will come up with the solution. I'm also waiting for Ookla to respond to my request for help.

Why not just try a different speed test?

This link should work with any device (I selected the British test site)

Sites with HTML5 interface, supporting tablets. If not luck then try to update your browser.

Many thanks for all the help. Having successfully performed speed tests to servers in the UK and USA on the site recommended by Buksida and on 3 of the sites recommended by Laser using both the Cable Office and CAT as ISP I can report for those interested that whilst neither was very good the Cable Office was the clear winner and considerably better than CAT.
I'll continue monitoring the respective speeds until my CAT contract expires next month.

I had the same problem a couple of months ago - I don't remember what I did, but the answer will be found just a couple of pages back.

Here we go:

And if you have your English (UK) keyboard back again you should also have recovered the elusive £ sign!

It was as simple as changing my keyboard from English (US) to English (UK).

Perhaps you can help me also.

My keyboard has the at sign @ but when I click it I get the " sign. IF I then click the " sign and then delete and go back to the @ sign it comes back - this looks a bit garbled but I think you will understand. I must have done something to cause this as I remember getting into a page which had various signs that were not on my keyboard but cannot remember how I did it

I have the same situation because I've set my keyboard to English (UK). If you change to English (US), everything will type as it shows on the keyboard.
