Interesting on the cost. In my area we have underground utilities. TOT pulled the cable to each house, but a private contractor installed from the box to inside the house. They charged a flat ฿1500 per house. The router was "free" with a one year contract.

In my case they could have saved money by just using a media converter instead of a router, but, TIT.

I thought some of you might be interested in an update on my TOT Fiber setup which was installed back in December.

I have read about TOT getting some flack re: their (lack of) service...

I have to say that in the 7 months so far I can only recall receiving less than the promised 20 Mbps on one occasion.
In fact, I was prompted to post this update because the speed is gradually increasing month on month - this week I noted a best speed so far of 25.4 Mbps! So credit where it's due to TOT.

Good value I think for B749 per month - may be worth considering if your current provider is crap?

My experience has been a bit different. I'm on the 20/10 plan. At first it seemed great, but then the bandwidth started to be disappointing. I wrote a short shell script to test the bandwidth every few hours. It logs tests that yield less than 17Mb down and/or less than 7Mb up.

Here's a sample from July 18th:

Code: Select all

Mon Jul 18 01:51:39 ICT 2016 Low Bandwidth
Ping: 15.277 ms
Download: 13.74 Mbit/s
Upload: 9.24 Mbit/s

Mon Jul 18 04:52:16 ICT 2016 Low Bandwidth
Ping: 17.166 ms
Download: 10.79 Mbit/s
Upload: 9.53 Mbit/s

Mon Jul 18 07:52:50 ICT 2016 Low Bandwidth
Ping: 16.756 ms
Download: 8.61 Mbit/s
Upload: 8.72 Mbit/s

Mon Jul 18 16:55:04 ICT 2016 Low Bandwidth
Ping: 17.063 ms
Download: 12.89 Mbit/s
Upload: 8.44 Mbit/s

Mon Jul 18 19:55:57 ICT 2016 Low Bandwidth
Ping: 17.348 ms
Download: 13.60 Mbit/s
Upload: 8.97 Mbit/s

Just "upgraded" this service to their 30/15 plan @ 750 baht per month.

Speed testing with speedtest.net to various servers yielded the following average results:

US west coast - 9/5
London - 6/8
Singapore - 18/13
Thailand - 29/14

All tests were faster in Firefox (48) than Chrome (52). Be aware (if you're not already) that these advertised speeds are only for Thailand, upgrading only gives you more local bandwidth.

Disclaimer: your speeds will vary depending on time of day, bandwidth sharing, router temperature, cable conditions, geography (proximity to the junction box) etc. These are just my findings.

I've seen an office on Soi 76 opposite the Red Cross. Not sure if that's the one you need. Often TOT vehicles sat outside.
