It would seem that Microsoft has started downloading Windows 10 in Thailand. It is supposed to be doing this in chunks to avoid "freezing" the internet. I see, if I look in Update History, that 7 Windows 10 updates have been automatically downloaded. They all failed to install and presumably this will stay the case until the last update has been downloaded. I have no idea how many updates will need to be downloaded.

As I assumed, Windows 10 has enough guinea pigs who are willing to blindly upgrade just because its available. Hope you have all taken recent backups of your critical files on an external HD, have the installation CD's that came with your current laptops/PC's including the WIndows 7, Windows 8.x installation CD's, are adept at re-installing from scratch and have a list of all current applications on your system which you may need to install later.

Seriously, updating your O/S to a version that was released yesterday is (putting it nicely) insanity... but good luck. It's low season, I am sure the PC shops on the third floor of Market Village will appreciate the extra business!

A very negative attiitude based on what? I have always installed new Windows and DOS versions immediately for the last 30 years or so. I have never had any trouble whatsoever. Maybe that is because I don't play around in the registry, etc.

Why ? There is absolutely nothing wrong with Windows 7. It's what most corporations use at the moment, its stable, well put together, there is no reason to move to another O/S just because its the latest and greatest t hing that just came out.
Agree 100%.

Based on 20 years of rebuilding and fixing co-workers and friends PCs/laptops. I would say 80% of the time these people didn't have recent backups and lost all their files because they thought the update or new O/S that Microsoft put out was safe to install because it came from Microsoft a company that always tested its software/patches before releasing them.

It's not a negative attitude, its a realistic attitude coming from a guy that makes his living troubleshooting Microsoft software/hardware issues on a daily basis :banghead: . Hey, they keep me in business! :D

Of course you're right about backups. I always have all my files backed up to a local disc and the cloud. What I am saying is that problems are not normally caused by a new version of Windows. They are caused by an incorrect installation process or tweaks that have been made to the computer for various reasons or unwanted programs that people have installed without realizing that they are doing it. These are all problems which will occur if they install the first version of Windows 10 or wait and install the 10th version. The problems are not normally with Microsoft software but with the person or the PC.

I owned my first computer in 1974. I can remember the day I walked away from windows.

have they been able to steal every idea from OSX yet? They include a few OSX features with each version. LOL.

Of course I mean OSX from 2002. :)

Have fun spending your day trying to fix windows.

I am not a Microsoft supporter. I have worked on many different systems. I wrote my first programs in 1964. I do enjoy trying anything that's new whether from Microsoft, Android or Apple.

Maybe jumusman and others, are correct in their analysis of Win 10.

A problem started today, it seems when you update to Win 10, it UN-instals Spybot. I tried to wipe all leftover Spybot reg entries with various software applications with success but then up pops a Spybot re installation file, saying re install Spybot using this EXE file with Windows 10 fixed file. Did that but immunization system in Spybot would not load many files, so decided to get rid of it altogether

Up to now, that is my only problem but the night is still young.

Luckily, I back up all my files to a separate, "Passport" ext drive. :(
I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.
