Cat Telecom router hached routes to Russian pornsites

I'm on visit in Hua Hin. The first problem I had was that my phone started to download wird applications and would open porn websites every time I was about to stream video.

I checked all the Internet settings and found that the dns Cat was giving as default belongs to a guy in Ukraine.

This had nothing to do with the local router, the dns was given by dhcp from the Cat router, maybe in Hua Hin.

I then looked up the the Cat official dns and changed the local router to use static dns, gone was the Russian.

The dns given by dhcp was:

91.212.124.159 if you check it out you will get the details. I cannot post url.

The dns to use with Cat Telecom is:

61.19.245.246
and
202.129.27.133

I have later made the same change to other routers i Palm Hills.

Gert are you using a fiber or DSL router with CAT in Palm Hills??? What speeds are you seeing on your connection???

First as described, the problem is fixed.

All the connections have been on a 3-4 year old tp-link router and dsl service.

Speed to bkk are good. From 6-12 mb, but the link to Europe is not always stable, but I'm able to stream tv so ok for me.

Wherever I am I usually change to Google Public DNS addresses because I will never forget them... they make them so simple how could you!

Google that IP address you listed above 91.212.124.159. I see people having the same problem with a malware virus named Trojan.DNSChanger, its quite common, so a full virus scan on everything would be suggested. Seems very harmful, there is a story about a guy that reinstalled Windows 3 times and still has it, maybe it infects the MBR Master Boot Record which would be very bad indeed, Windows virus scan software would not be able to fix it..Good luck, I hope you can remedy the situation!

Gert, we use 3BB DSL and it is roughly the same speeds maybe a little slower... Really want to see someone put fiber into Palm Hills... They told me if I could get 5 customers committed to them they would run it into PH...

Google dns can be used but expect a higher latency than if you use the Cat dns.

My problem is not on pc level but on the router obtaining the dns from Cat by dhcp, the Cat server is infected and I lack in Thai to explain, all they do is a reset of the router locally with no help.

If I lived in Palm Crescent, I would find 5-10 other owners and share a 3bb 100/30 line, the cost is 5.900 thb monthly so break even would be around 8 users.

The benefit would be high speed access at lower cost.

The only thing that needs to be seen is if the router in bkk will handle the traffic to Europe as well?
