“Thailand is one of the countries being watched and considered for world partnerships.”

Watched maybe, but partnership in what?

Well, the locals are some of the biggest believers in Farcebook...so the chief of social brainwashing is coming to meet the dictator. There will be a closet deal on something mutually beneficial despite the denials. What possibly could they have to talk about other than increasing business/access etc. for Farcebook and security/Big Brother stuff for Thailand's "Dear Leader?"

Fake news about Fakebook, what a surprise ...

MARK ZUCKERBERG HAS NO PLANS TO VISIT THAILAND OR PRAYUTH: FACEBOOK
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is not traveling to Thailand to meet junta chairman Prayuth Chan-ocha, the social media giant said Wednesday.

Two days after the government announced the news, a Facebook Thailand spokesperson said in a statement that no such meeting was planned.

“There are no plans currently for any of our senior leaders to visit Thailand,” the terse statement read without elaborating.

Facebook admits up to 270m users are fake and duplicate accounts
Facebook has admitted that up to 270m accounts on the social network are illegitimate, raising questions over the social network's integrity as it is under pressure over Russian meddling in elections across the world.

Buried in the social network's results on Wednesday night, it disclosed that there are tens of millions more fake and duplicate accounts than it had previously thought.

Around 2-3pc of its 2.1bn monthly users in the third quarter of 2017 were "user-misclassified and undesirable accounts", Facebook said, up from the 1pc it had estimated in July.

Another 10pc of its accounts are duplicates of real users, almost doubling its estimate of 6pc from last quarter's results. This suggests that in total, up to 13pc of its 2.1bn monthly users - almost 270m accounts - are illegitimate.

No surprise really, Farcebook has become the pollution of the internet, a free-for-all for freeloaders, spammers, scammers and crooks.

But in fairness, the majority use it I guess for the way intended, to make it easier to keep in touch with friends and family and at that level it works well.

Many moons ago, I was a member simply to share photographs with family in the UK whilst I was living and working overseas. I began to have numerous problems with (to quote Buks) "spammers, scammers and crooks". What truly annoyed me, was the fact that how difficult (nigh on impossible) it was at the time to cancel my (and my mother's) account(s) - taking several weeks and numerous Emails to do so. NEVER to be done again.

Facebook own the account and everything you put on it - you don't!

Facebook are also the only ones making any money out of all of these spammy hua hin pages and groups - not the Admins that are wasting hours of their lives every day maintaining and moderating them.

Facebook is not the problem, it's the way you use it. Another thing; anyone who asks questions of search engines (especially while logged on to Google or other online account) without always using a VPN (I actually don't), or anyone who uses an email account which is not encrypted, or anyone who allows session cookies to be stored on their browser is exposing themselves to any amount of potential privacy invasion, data collection by third parties and spamming, why say Facebook is the problem?

I use Facebook and have done for a lot of years. My level of spam email is close to zero (apart from my Gmail account which handles a large volume of spam discreetly and extremely well without user involvement), purely due to the fact that the contact details (email address) I post on Facebook is a trash container which I never check. I don't publish a phone number. People I am linked to on Facebook are either my friends who now how to contact me anyway,or people who I only want to communicate with on Facebook.

Everyone who has an email account will receive an amount of phishing and other scam emails. I receive them more on old email addresses which I still keep but have not sent email from for years (a couple even pre-Facebook).

And do I care that Facebook monetarise their product? Why should I? And why should the admins of groups care, who set them up as a public service or just for fun?

I find this thread to be paranoia central.

This has nothing to do with email. The Facebook platform is the spammer as it profits out of putting spam/fake posts/pollution in front of you every day. People are getting blinded by the bubbles they're creating for themselves with targeted Facebook "news" feeds only showing them things that they agree with, scientific studies have proved this. Reading some of the rants about certain subjects from certain members in the current affairs section I tend to agree.

Some further reading on it if you still think Facebook is your benevolent friend ...

It is to do with email and social media in general. Big data collects from all sources which are public and some which are not supposed to be.

But talking about Facebook and opinion-forming articles, anyone who gets their news from a social media platform is quite frankly beyond the power of logical reasoning anyway. You know, they will end up believing something, for some misguided reason of their own so why not? Most people these days believe the mainstream media is also full of fake news. Tell me who cares enough to read multiple sources to try to uncover the truth? I do, maybe you do, maybe we have the time and the inclination, but IMO not many.

Sadly you're talking about two thirds of the population, I would imagine the UK to be on a par with the US for these stats and Asia to be higher. It is a fact and facebook profits off it and manipulates it.
