J.J.B. :)
I don't know anything about the battery you need, but my dad always put a light smear of BP petroleum jelly on his car battery connections and placed a old copper penny on top of the battery, that acted like an anode, to attract any corrosion away from connectors.

I am a mind of useless information.

:run:
I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

Thanks Khundon1975, Bluesky was able to provide the same advice, without the copper penny idea. But where-oh-where could I find Vaseline/petroleum jelly in a town like Hua Hin?!

I thought JJB was being flippant and assumed he already knew the answer quite well.

And now for something a little more tricky (and they don't have these at Home Pro :thumb: )

Lazada can get them but not this week and I need them before the weekend. I'm trying to create a 7.2V rechargeable 'battery' using 6 x AAA NiMh batteries. I tried soldering but with no success (apparently they need to be welded). I have also tried to tape them together but can't guarantee it will hold with the climate in Thailand.

Ideally I'm looking for some 'battery box holders' as per the pics attached. Either in pairs, triples or even as a straight-up six. Any help, as always, gratefully received.

If ordering from Lazada and it says ships from abroad then it will take a while, a few weeks. If not coming from abroad I've never waited more than 2 days for any delivery from them, despite their expected delivery date.

Lazada did state "coming from abroad" on all of the items like this I was after, although they certainly had plenty. Still, not to worry as the search is now over. I made an amazing little find today that could change some of my crazy searches in Hua Hin for ever!

Just along the Sa Song road from the traffic lights, going away from the night market, a couple of doors down from the "All in Hua Hin" is a narrow but very deep electronics shop. It has no name that I can see and is almost hidden beneath a white and green, faded awning. Inside the shop there are two glass counters on either side and looks a bit more like a pharmacy than an electronics shop. But it sells all kinds of electronic and electrical components, connectors and more besides, a real Alladin's Cave! The lady in the shop had five different bags full of the battery holders in the top picture above to hold two, three, four, six and eight batteries - all for just 25฿ each!

If you're looking for that obscure part for whatever electrical gizmo has just failed, try this place first. It may save you time and money!

Actually I was going to suggest 3 places to you, that being one of them. The other 2 being the electrical repair shop on railway road a few shops north of the night market and the shop at the bottom right of the Grand Market. I usually go to these for connectors, laptop power cables, HDMI cables etc

If you get desperate you can adapt some el cheapo, torch bodies which will get you out of trouble for a short term solution.

JJB, Just interested but why AAA batteries? is space/weight an issue? They will solder but can be messy, good iron and preparation is required.
If you were prepared to make a battery pack what charger do you have?
I have a couple of 7.2V model car battery packs going spare and enough never been used NiCad cells with pre-welded tags to make up the required voltage, but would be more bulky than AAA.
PM me If I can assist.

A pair of 18650 batteries would also work, they're Li-ion 3.7v each and are found in laptop battery packs. A dead one usually has only one dead cell meaning the other 5 are usable.

Thanks a bunch, this is for a self-actuated siren/strobe for an alarm system. The batteries must be small enough to fit in the casing and provide power to the bell in the event any attempt is made to cut the wires leading to it. There are a number of tamper systems in the bell itself that feeds back to the main alarm panel in the house. The battery voltage must be 7.2V and apparently the charging technology is built around NiMH and using Li-ion or NiCad would result in the wrong level of charge and a tamper would be reported. Size-wise the batteries must be able to fit in the bell and allow the lid to be secured, otherwise it also goes into a tamper alarm.

I think I have it sussed and will be sorting it out today so fingers crossed!
