Windows 9
Windows 9
It's getting closer to release so I thought it was about time to start a thread on this next version of Windows.
Windows 9 is actually what Microsoft wants to sell you

Re: Windows 9
Im still at windows 7. Can't say that I like windows 8, but hopefully 9 will be better. I don't like the fact that they mainly make it for tablets.
Re: Windows 9
Hi Jaran, you're obviously a bit of a geek having replaced your ipad screen yourself.
What do you mean "the fact that they mainly make it for tablets"? They make it so that you can use it with a touch screen, but you can also use it perfectly fine on a laptop. When you say you don't like Windows 8 are you referring to the original version or the more current Windows 8.1 Update 1 (soon to be Update 2 - August probably)? Apart from the missing Start button, what is it that you don't like that you would rather stick with Windows 7? And what would you like to see in Windows 9 to make it better, apart from the Start button?
Personally I find that Win 8.1 Update 1 runs just fine on my laptop, and perhaps a little bit faster than Win 7 did. Using applications is still the same. File management, backing up, etc. is still the same.
Just curious because there seem to be a lot of folks who "don't like" Windows 8 but really can't say why. Other than the Start button of course.

Re: Windows 9
hhinner......totally agree.
Win 8/8.1 is great in my experience, exactly the same, only faster than 7, as you say.
The fact that it caters for both tablets and laptops/desktops at the same time seems to go unnoticed.
A shame people can't grasp that one.
Oh well....

Windows 9: Rumored To Be Free
Windows 9: Rumored To Be Free:
Exercpt:
"Windows 9 to be free?
With competing and software economic models constantly evolving, another possible innovative feature of Windows 9 will be the ability for users to purchase extra features as they require them. This subscription based format will be a massive departure from the norm for Microsoft, but wouldn’t draw comparisons with other software such as micro transactions within video games. It is mooted that the base Windows 9 operating system could be free, but that certain features would cost users extra.
In what will be viewed as an obvious response to the incredibly popular Apple App Store, Microsoft is also reportedly to connect all of his platforms considerably more closely and link them to a single App Store. Thus, Windows Phone, Windows 9, and Xbox One may become open to more intimate collaboration. At present, Microsoft has separate app stores for Windows Phone apps and those related to the Windows desktop operating system."

Re: Windows 9
I have a Acer lap top running Windows 8 I am still getting used to it but a question for you
if Windows 8 is so good why are they replacing it so soon.
XP and Vista seem to have been around for so long getting used to Win 8 will take some time I guess that all new operating systems will be made to run on tablets or laptops.
Kendo.

"Windows 9 preview set to be released in September"
"Disgruntled Windows 8 users: there’s finally light at the end of the tunnel. ZDNet reports that Microsoft is planning to release a Windows 9 “technology preview” sometime between the end of September and the beginning of October. In order to install the preview, you’ll have to agree to receive automatic monthly updates, but the preview will be publicly available for anyone interested in testing out the Threshold operating system."

Re: Windows 9
I've experienced ALL Microsoft windows and so far I am very happy with Win 8.1. It's by far the easiest to use/manage but there again my use of a PC has diminished since retiring from the IT world
