Not sure if there’s a more recent thread about TOT but during the past few weeks we have lost service completely on a Sunday and not been able to get it sorted until the Monday. We pay for the 50 mb fibre service and the guy who came on Monday this week fitted a new router but told us that we can upgrade to 100 mb for no extra monthly fee, but we would need a new router capable of handling the 100 mb speed at a cost of 1,990 baht. I thought I would give it a try so we called into TOT in Cha Am and explained what we wanted to do, the lady fairly efficiently sorted everything out, updated our connection and set the new router up in the office, so all I had to do was bring it home, plug it in and update the password on any equipment we have. I was just getting my wallet ready to hand over the money and the woman asked my wife for 10 Baht - this was al it cost, other than we had to agree to a new 1 year contract starting this week.

If you have the 50 mb fibre service, I would recommend you ask for a similar upgrade. As for speed, I have just tested and got 88.9 download and 44.1 upload.

Anyone had TOT issues lately ... or is it just me?

Intermittent and painfully slow at times. Naturally when the technicians rock up to test it, it works fine.

Methinks there is a lot of filtering going on which hampers the speed of overseas connections, the techies virtually confirmed it.

I have TOT and also find it slower lately, however I put that down to using a VPN?

Likewise, I know the VPN throttles the speed somewhat and its slightly faster without it, but I've kinda got used to my digital condom!

The techies did add that colleagues in Hua Hin have been called out to many farang houses due to similar issues so I guess its not just me.

If I’m watching a UK TV channel (Via the VPN), it will often freeze up a number of times, I even sometimes get a message “you do not have sufficient bandwidth”!!

There are probably a number of issues. For one thing, TOT seems to bounce requests between its own servers a number of times before it gets anywhere. I don't know if that's for snooping, censorship or something else.

I run an automatic bandwidth test every few hours from here and get notified if it is too slow. But that's just a test to a local server as all we're paying for is local bandwidth. I've added a test to a server in California for comparison. The only entry so far is at the bottom of the following log fragment. The first line shows the date and time, the second line shows my public IP, then download, upload, test host and finally download bandwidth to a host in California.

Not just TOT but all of them. What we seem to have is a growing Covid-19 internet speed problem. With many students now home and going to school on-line, and many companies including Facebook Bangkok working remotely, speed is deteriorating as I type this.

I use both TOT, and TRUE as an alternative, and they both started to slow down yesterday. I can only anticipate that things will get worse as more and more people become confined to their homes.

Netflix Europe has just cut the quality of their streaming to lessen their impact on servers there by 25%. Quality said to be good, but not best now.

Perhaps time to try some other DNS configurations again to see if it helps, and I hope without hope that the ISP's here will buy and activate more servers to help the situation.

My TOT connection has been pretty unpredictable lately. Whilst certain overseas sites still seem to connect OK, others that I use regularly are terrible and it's difficult to get pages to open.

TOT has gone from bad to worse recently - no point even contacting them about it any longer.

Touchwood, my TOT connection is working well. It was slow loading sites last week and I saw an article about certain Windows 10 updates that have been slowing computers so I uninstalled those and so far seems to be working better. I'm no techie so please dont ask me anything. I just googled windows 10 updates problem.

Yesterday evening our TOT fiber Internet (we're in Korat) slowed to a crawl and some sites were unreachable. I tried using a US VPN but that didn't help things. Then I tried a VPN in Europe (Czech Republic) and boom, back to normal speed. Perhaps it had something to do with trans-Pacific traffic.

When I checked logs this morning I found that we had no IP address for a period of about five minutes at around 5:30 PM.

Maybe it’s area specific or fibre (which is what we have) is not affected?
