Using Netflix in Thailand
Re: Using Netflix in Thailand
....."Another significant difference Thailand viewers may not look forward to is the same type censorship used in cinemas here and employed by Netflix in other markets to adhere to local media laws.
In a question-and-answer session after his presentation, Mr Hastings said Netflix may introduce "clean" versions of films, similar to those shown on airliners, to address Thai and other local countries' rules on mature content, violence and respecting cultural sensibilities.".......

NetFlix is now officially available in every country in the world except China. Thaiand are offering 3 different subscription rates (from 300-600 Baht per month). The first month is free. No long term contracts, just one month at a time. My problem is that I have a new LG TV and the NetFlix App is not on it and also not available in the LG Content Store. If I try to watch via my TV browser I can log in and choose a film but it will not play because the browser doesn't have Silverlight. The App is thus essential. NetFlix are looking into this. NetFlix works perfectly from my tablet and telephone.

Been playing with it over here, using our USA based subscription. No problems and good access. We pay around 420 baht per month in the states.

Good quality here. No buffering. Will take me a while to figure out what to watch.

iflix has a 1 month free trial and you dont have to use any creditcard before the trial is over, and they have thai subtitles.prcscct wrote:Two separate companies. I don't know where Iflix is based. Netflix is US.

EDIT; Just found that Iflix is a Malaysian private company. Netflix is a public company traded on the NASDAQ at $117.68 per share as of today.
100 baht a month.
I have only used it a few times but seems good.

Here is a list of secret Netflix category codes to help you narrow your search when looking for a specific type of content.
Use this URL; http://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/xxxxx
but in place of the x's at the end substitute one of the codes from the following list.
http://ogres-crypt.com/public/NetFlix-S ... enres.html
This helps me shorten my search time dramatically...
I also have a copy of an open source spreadsheet that narrows the topics down even further. It has thousands of code entries, though not all have been identified as yet. It's big so I don't know how to post it here.

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Also, if you have any problem viewing certain content because of licensing laws, you can use app mentioned in the following article (at your own risk).

I don't know how they're going to do this, unless there is a technology out there which can identify that a person is on a VPN. If there is such a technology, look out!, other services are sure to follow suit. Pete

Judging by this comment that they make, they must be able to Pete.prcscct wrote:I don't know how they're going to do this, unletss there is a technology out there which can identify that a person is on a VPN. If there is such a technology, look out!, other services are sure to follow suit. Pete

"Ultimately, the aim is to provide a service around the world that is more similar than not. Using VPNs or proxies to virtually cross borders violates Netflix's terms of use because of licensing restrictions on TV shows and movies," a Netflix spokesperson told Reuters.

^ Yes, I've been doing some reading since posting earlier. It seems to me at the moment that a SmartDNS service is preferable over a VPN if your only aim is to unblock sites to watch content. It seems that route is more difficult to detect or do anything about. Pete

Netfliks to block VPN proxies in many countries.
Don't know if this will affect LOS residents. I think Netflix is blocked already in Thailand. Or is it
