Re: Which Mobile Phone?
Been doing a bit of research and found these three all with half decent specs and under 10k:
http://www.lazada.co.th/lg-nexus-5-d821 ... 62918.html
http://www.lazada.co.th/asus-zenfone-se ... 99440.html
http://www.lazada.co.th/lenovo-vibe-p1- ... 40810.html
Has anyone used LG, Lenovo or Asus phones? I know the majority are on Samsung or Apple.

(Replying from another thread: viewtopic.php?p=417538)
I keep my phone in a plastic case with cutouts for the various ports, and use the magnetic port for easy charging (the regular USB charging port is behind a fiddly rubber cover that easily breaks off). Last year (2015) I was having a hard time getting the charger to click onto the magnetic port and realized the back of the phone was bulging so much that the glass back was almost completely detached from the body of the phone, and the entire phone was warped, hence the port was out of alignment with the cutout on the cover. The phone went back to the Sony Service Center for six weeks.
Starting late last year, I had recurring problems with the phone suddenly not being able to send/receive calls and SMSs. Went to the True shop and would be issued a new SIM. Lather, rinse, repeat about five times with increasingly short times when the SIM worked. I was silently cursing True when it dawned on me that the phone might be the problem. The clincher was the last time, when the new SIM worked in the True shop, but by the time I got home, it no longer worked. I got my old iPhone 4 out of the drawer, and the SIM worked. I transferred it between phones three times (i.e. six transfers) and each time the SIM worked in the iPhone, but not in the Sony Xperia.
So, on my next Pattaya trip, the phone will once more be in the custody of the kind, but slow, folks at the Sony Service Center.
The feature list of the Xperia Z3C (and currently the Z5 Compact) is impressive, but hardly worth it when the phone spends so much time at the Sony Service Center.
I bought my B18,000 Sony Xperia Z3Compact in October 2014. Nine days after I bought it, it powered off and wouldn't power back on. Took it to Sony Service Center (in Pattaya, where I was living at the time) and it took two months to get the phone back. (The Sony Shop where I bought it in the Central Festival Mall in Pattaya would only do a return/exchange within seven days of purchase.)buksida wrote:What was the problem with the Xperia? Re: Which Mobile Phone?
Thanks for the update, I was looking at the Xperia M5, but the Asus and Lenovo posted above both have similar specs for 2-3k less. No doubt MV prices will be higher than buying online.

Re: The Android Thread
I do like the Galaxy phones and I'm not being biased here - but there's a BIG difference between "water resistant" and "water proof". Tested at the equivalent of 1.5m depth is "water proof" IMHO...... Anywho: -
'Water-resistant' Samsung Galaxy S7 Active Fails Test
"A Samsung smartphone advertised as being water-resistant has failed a water immersion test by a leading product review site.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 Active stopped working after being put in a tank that simulated the effect of being about 5ft (1.5m) underwater.
Consumer Reports repeated its test on a second model, which was also damaged.
Samsung said it was possible defective devices were "not as watertight" as they should have been.
When removed after half an hour, the first phone's display was non-responsive and marred by green lines. Bubbles had also formed in its two camera lenses.
The second handset subjected to the same test suffered similar faults.
Samsung's website stated the Galaxy S7 Active, which is sold in the US but is not available in the UK, is IP68-certified."

Re: The Android Thread
While I agree with you that water resistant and water proof are very different, I have seen an advert for a Samsung phone (which I would assume is this one, but it was on UK TV so I'm a little confused) which shows the device being dropped into a fish tank and living to tell the tale.pharvey wrote:I do like the Galaxy phones and I'm not being biased here - but there's a BIG difference between "water resistant" and "water proof". Additionally, I think we generally expect pretty much any phone to be water-resistant, don't we?

ah ok. Thanks for the clarification
Re: Which Mobile Phone?
Finally got a Lenovo K5 Vibe Plus with the following spec:
Full HD 1080x1920 5" screen
Dolby sound
Octa core CPU
3Gb RAM, 16Gb storage
13Mp camera, 5Mp front cam
Dual Sim
6,490 THB
The equivalent spec Sony was double the price, the Samsung with that hardware was over 10k. MV prices were about 15% higher than Lazada for Samsungs and Sonys, other phones are cheaper for higher specs as most people go for the brand name instead of whats in the box.

Re: Which Mobile Phone?
The K5 Plus is 5700 baht at MBK (they would have mailed it to you if you asked). It uses Snapdragon 616 like the J7 - weak. You could have had the 650 with superior *everything* for less, *and* go with a brand name (Xiaomi is the 3rd largest smartphone company, after Apple and Samsung).
Oh well.
Btw, the J710 discussed earlier sells for 7600 now at MBK.

Re: Which Mobile Phone?
Yes, I thought of buying online to save 500 baht or so but if there is a problem sending it back could be a pain so went with the one I found in MV instead. The next one up was 5.5" which is too big and I've never heard of 'Xiaomi' and didn't see any in MV. Happy with the 'no name' Lenovo (they're all made in China after all), its far better than the old Samsung already and I dont need something that will calculate advanced astrophysics, it is just a phone.

Mobile phone for the elderly
An elderly friend is being upgraded from 2G to 3G by her service provider so must say goodbye to her faithful 2G Nokia which needs recharging just twice a month, gets dropped often and still works after 5 years of use. She needs an easy to see keyboard and screen but does not require Internet, just voice and SMS. Any recommendations for a mobile phone to buy in Thailand? Thank you.
