Lastest browser speed results favour Firefox
Firefox 13 out and comes out on top, but Chrome and Opera snapping at it's heels.
Interesting read this is....... http://lifehacker.com/5917714/browser-s ... opera-1164
Seems that there is a real mix of which one comes out best in certain sections but is an interesting read.

I love the new panes when you open a blank tab - very handy!

I pull up this old chestnut again. I've just gotten around to comparing Chrome with Firefox. I see no difference in speed, and with Chrome you can't freely customize the toolbar as you can with Firefox.
My vote is to continue on with Firefox. Any other opinions out there, or other advantages I missed concerning Chrome? Pete

I hate the way Firefox decides to crash at inconvenient times - is it me, or does everybody get that? Does Chrome suffer from the same - I've never seen it?
I've never been a fan of Chrome, but I'm finding I have to use it to access certain sites these days e.g. it is the only browser that I can get Agoda to open on. I am finding it easier to use nowadays. Also, if something is loading slowly in Firefox, I copy the URL into Chrome and can get the answer back whilst still waiting for Firefox to load.

You remember my FB message comment the other day about the forum not loading. I came to find later that it was hanging with the "google.syndicated.adds" or something similar showing at the bottom of Firefox as to what it was trying to process. I now wonder if you would get the same hang with Chrome given the relationship with Google? Pete

Its probably the Flashplayer Plugin causing the crashes, you can go to Firefox > Add-ons > Shockwave Flash > and change the setting to "ask to activate". This will stop FlashPlayer running all the time, taking Gigabytes of RAM, and causing the browser to crash.Big Boy wrote:I hate the way Firefox decides to crash at inconvenient times - is it me, or does everybody get that? It's official: Chrome is No.1 browser
http://www.bangkokpost.com/tech/world-u ... -1-browser
SAN FRANCISCO - Google Chrome on Monday was crowned the top Internet browser, officially ending the long reign of Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE).
NetMarketShare calculated the Chrome had 41.7 percent of desktop browser share in April, narrowly topping the 41.4 share for IE. Mozilla's Firefox browser was third with 9.7 percent, according to the market tracker.
A second market tracker, StatCounter, had given the title to Chrome four years ago and gave Google's software for browsing the Internet an even bigger lead over IE in April.
A graph posted online at netmarketshare.com showed a Chrome use trend line rising while a line for IE sloped downward.
When it came to using browser software to access the internet from mobile devices, Chrome commanded slightly more than 49 percent of the market, according to NetMarketShare.
The results came as Google faces regulatory scrutiny, particularly in Europe, over its dominant position in Internet lifestyles and as Microsoft was pursuing a shift to business and cloud computing services.
Microsoft fielded new Edge browser software synched to its latest-generation Windows 10 operating system and incorporating its Cortana virtual assistant capabilities to win users.
Microsoft last month reported a 25 percent plunge in quarterly profits as the company navigated away from its role as a software seller to a services model.

Re: Lastest browser speed results favour Firefox
I have given up with Firefox having had the issues previously mentioned. I used to be constantly calling my internet provider and complaining about the slow speed of the pages loading. (I had the crashes too).
I did some asking around on other forums and the majority of answers I received referred to the slowness of FF. I have been using Chrome now for about 4 months and can't see me going back to FF anytime in the near future.

Re: Lastest browser speed results favour Firefox
I disabled (and completely uninstalled) flash on my machine about a year ago and I still get nearly daily Firefox crashes... a bit annoying but when I open it back up it recovers from where I left off. Because of this I would use Chrome, but it doesn't have the ability to stack open tabs on the (left) side as Firefox does, at least not that I've been able to find. I frequently have 30 or more tabs open and can see exactly what they are with them stacked on the side instead of bunched up across the top. Maybe having 30 open tabs and 3 separate windows is what crashes Firefox, but I've been sending them crash reports for ages and nothing has changed.buksida wrote:Its probably the Flashplayer Plugin causing the crashes, you can go to Firefox > Add-ons > Shockwave Flash > and change the setting to "ask to activate". My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
Re: Lastest browser speed results favour Firefox
Er ... yeah that would generally crash it, unless you have about 32 Gigs of RAM! Firefox is a memory hog, I only have 6 tabs open at the moment and it still wants to use 800Mb of RAM.hhfarang wrote:Maybe having 30 open tabs and 3 separate windows is what crashes Firefox.

Re: Lastest browser speed results favour Firefox
I currently have 15 tabs open in FF, memory usage is less than 500MB (I have 16GB). I often have 30-40 tabs open and I haven't experienced any crashes in a very long time.
Chrome is okay if you're into vanilla browsing. However, if you want to fully customize your experience (add-ons, user scripts, etc.), nothing beats FF.

How can I check how much memory FF is using? I very rarely have more than 5 or 6 tabs open at the same time.moater wrote:I currently have 15 tabs open in FF, memory usage is less than 500MB (I have 16GB)...
Re: Lastest browser speed results favour Firefox
Open up the task manager by pressing ctrl+alt+del, under processes it will show you what is using your memory.
Have 7 tabs open on FF now and its taking 750Mb of RAM.
